    I recently went on a long trip in my 2020 tundra. It's has 6112/5160 w/33" BFG KO2. Originally I liked the way it road, but after this long trip, not so much. I also would have like to have the luggage inside vs in the bed. I have read and seen reviews that say the GX is truck like and others say it rides real nice. I have been toying around with the idea of getting into an SUV because I see my self doing a lot more long road trips. Ultimately what I want is a better ride, which I can get by switching out my suspension and tires. Obviously to an extent. I don't expect the tundra to ride like a Cadillac per say. So what's your take on the GX? Or your take on redoing my suspension?

    Get rid of those chunky LT tires first. Add rear sway bar. Install bed cap to keep bed stuff dry.

    Alternatively I would go to Sequoia TRD. Same powertrain, super plush ride on those FOX shocks.

    I have what this forum considers to be the bad Tundra and the “good” GX.
    I find the GX to ride not as nice as the Tundra. Both not stock.

    GX is on Dobinsons standard shocks and coils.
    Tundra is on Eibach Stage 1.

    If I do plan to keep it the coilovers and tires will be changed out. I already have a rear sway bar and I have a cover.

    I thought about the Sequoia, but I just can't get over the interior. When they did the refresh, they should have done the inside also.

    Oh yeah, I agree.

    I have both Tundra (5100 + LT AT) and Sequoia (FOX + P AT). Tundra rides harsher, but it was nearly as plush as Sequoia when it was stock on 4600 and the same P AT tires.

    Your tundra is a 22, correct? You don't like the Eibach stage 1. Obviously mine is the previous gen so they ride different as is.

    When I bought mine brand new, what I hated was the boaty feeling. The 6112/5160 make the truck rebound way less but at a cost. I want to have a small lift and a more plush ride if I decide to keep it.

    You just had to install a rear TRD sway bar and, maybe, replace the front one, with TRD. A proper way to fight boatiness is to increase the sway bars stiffness.

    Is the tundra ride harsh like too stiff or is it a handful on the freeway?

    I have a 1st gen sequoia that I take on lots of road trips and it's great and smooth, but I also have an older ES330 and it's so much quieter and easier to drive. I'm going to put sound deadening in the sequoia and maybe that will help a bit. So just another point, the GX is probably much quieter at highway speed.

    It's to stiff. You feel everything on the road. From what I have read the 6112/5160 combo is meant for more of a fast off-road use. Granted my e rates tires don't help any either.

    You kinda need to figure out your end game plan then go from there.
    • E-rated tires are a killer for ride and handling. What pressure are you running?
    • Are you running stock wheels? 18" or 20"?
    • Bilsteins are going to ride stiffer than stock.
    • A TRD front sway bar will not help it ride more plush.
    This is exactly why i avoid e-rated tires (and heavy tires in general). 275/70 18 KO2 (33") are ~42% heavier than OEM tires, plus they are less compliant. None of which are doing you any favors.

    Cheapest solution might be buying a set of take-off OEM wheels with good OEM tires and trying them on your truck to see how much different the ride is then go from there.

    These trucks ride fairly well, especially for a full sized truck when compared to trucks 20 years ago.

    I have a 2016 Platinum and my wife has a 2018 GX Base. Both are stock suspension.

    Honestly, having traded in a GS350 F-Sport for the GX, we were shocked that the ride was vastly different than most of the Lexus lineup. The GX rides more like a truck, albeit a decent ride overall. My mom has a GX with the adjustable suspension and that doesn't ride much smoother plus it is expensive to replace. So I'd save the money on that option.

    Considering tires can make a difference in the ride too, I'd look to the GX for long distance trip b4 the Tundra. We've done quite a few as a family and it is nice to have access to the trunk while riding and the fuel consumption is better.

    Having owned both a gx460 and now tundra I can confidently say the gx rides so much better. Even with a 2.5” lift on 35s the gx rode so damn nice. Hands down the most comfortable vehicle we’ve ever owned.

    I do like the Eibach Stage 1 on my 22.
    I was referring to my 3rd gen Tundra being the bad gen compared to the mighty 2.5 gen.

    My GX Dobs setup, having the stiffer springs, rides rougher compared to my Eibach setup Tundra.

    Ever driven or ridden in a Pro Tundra? They are ridiculously smooth. If you are wanting to stick to 33's, then I strongly suggest biting the bullet and getting the Fox TRD Pro shocks. I put them on my 2018 Platinum, and it rides absolutely fantastic with 33" E rated Cooper AT3 XLT's.

    I have done some research and you and a lot of other members say the same. Problem is, no used ones on sale and new are going for 3k. I guess you get what you pay for in a sense since all other aftermarket shocks are tuned for off-road. Unless you do Acctune to some Kings or Fox and then it's pretty much the same if not more than the pro set up.

    Considered the gx as well. But the premium fuel requirement is kinda a deal breaker for me. I know that seems lame but long term would be expensive They are outstanding vehicles.

    For me its that, some what since I only work 3 miles away, and the fact that the 20-21 dont have Apple or Android connect. Have also been seeing videos of the way you adjust the A/C, wow is all I can say. I would need a 22-23 to get what I want and they are up there still in price. There are things I have been seeing here and there that make me want to wait till the 22-23 come in from lease returns and drop in price. I am not feeling the 20-21 with those things I mentioned. As minors as they may seem it's something that will bother me since I love having my phone maps on the screen and not the crap nav that comes OEM.

    One downside of the Sequoia, for a traveling vehicle, is the small 26 gallon tank. Having traveled long distance with my Tundra and the 38 gallon tank, it is the only way to go (in my opinion).

    Very much agree. I have to stop so often in the sequoia it's annoying.

    @pursuit2550 what about waiting for the upcoming land cruiser or the rumored new 4runner?

    I agree. I happen to have both. Tundra is way better suited for overlanding by yourself or together with wife. Add 3 kids and Sequoia is better, no questions ;)

    I've also spent months overlanding in old Volvo wagon w/ 18 gallon tank and V8-like appetite. Often had to carry 12 extra gallons in the roof basket, which is PIA, but what can you do?
