I just purchased a new tundra and looking at buying a bed cover for the truck. Is there any that you have that you would recommend or not recommend for it? Roll up, fold up, or retractable?

Depends on your needs. Do you need a shell for dogs or taller things or lower profile and more visibility of a tonneau. If security is important look into hard shell or hard tonneau. Again after answering shell vs tonneau, if versatility is important look into soft tonneau or softopper shell.

I personally had a collapsable softopper brand shell on my Tacoma before the Tundra and loved being able to fold it down if I needed the whole bed but also didn't have to remove or store a hard shell to do so. I haven't received it but for the new Tundra I ordered a Fas Top combo that is soft canvas but is a roll up tonneau and softopper shell built into one. With the bigger truck, visibility issues and all the rear cams I am planning on leaving the tonneau on most of the time but have the ability to fold up the soft top shell for dogs, luggage, etc. I've never used a hard shell or hard tonneau but I can recommend Fas Top or Softopper brands.

Really depends on your needs. I really like the Paragon cover my friend has. The Paragon can be easily removed so it doesn't take up space up by the cab.

But I want T-slots on the rails so I went with a RetraxONE XR. I will lose a bit of space up by the cab where it rolls up. But I am confident I made the right choice. I researched them for like a month before pulling the trigger. I wanted the t-slot rails because I plan to put some Yakima HD adjustable bed racks on it for hauling bigger items and at some point I also want to put a tent up on those racks.

I haven't installed it yet though. Its literally sitting on my front porch right now lol.

I like my MX4, but at times I miss having a roll top cover. The reason I changed this go around was my old roll top (granted 16 years old) started to get misaligned inside the box, so I had to take the cover apart to slide over 1 slat so it would continue rolling. I was also moving to a smaller bed size and I didn't want to waste that space.

I liked the idea of the Paragon, but I think it was going to lose more rail functionality than I was willing to lose. I forget because I looked at 1,000 different options. I know I hated the soft cover on my T3 Tundra since it never stayed attached. I'll likely never get a tri-fold again.

    Things to think about:
    - Soft or Hard?
    - How secure do you want it?
    - How often the cover will be open on the highway, and how it stays open (this is why I don't like the tri-fold I have).
    - Does it need to be easily removed, completely or partially?
    - Do you want to maintain the use of the bed rails, and if so how much use?

I would have been sold on the Paragon if it had t-slot rails.

Think about how you will use your truck.

do you just want to keep things dry? I had an access soft roll up for 12 years. When I washed the truck I wiped the cover with 303 space protectant. It looked as good as new 12 years later.

do you want security? Hard cover is the way to go.

for what it’s worth, I wanted to “double up” my cargo capacity for cottaging (be able to put stuff on top of the cover), and I wanted security so when we road trip we could throw stuff in the box rather than head back to the hotel, before supper to drop stuff off.

for my needs of security, versatility, and cargo capability there is only one cover, and that’s the diamondback Hd.

I almost love this cover more than the truck!
