And got his neighbor's 2017 w/55k on the odo. The truck literally never got driven and would sit in the driveway 2 houses over lol.

The trade-in: 2019 DC 4WD ~100k miles. Level kit. Dealer gave him $22k.
The purchase: 2017 CM 2WD 55k miles. 6" lift. Dealer came down from $30k to $21k.

He owed ~$8k and will finance ~$10k plus they threw in an extended warranty for 5 yrs/60k more miles.

I think he could've gotten more for his trade-in. What do y'all think?

    Don’t think I would have given up 4WD, for a 2WD

What do you think about what they gave him on his trade-in?

Now he has to swap the headlights for 2018+ OEM LEDs and take off all that neon green ZOMBIE shit..:eek2:
And who the fuck puts a 6" lift on a 2WD?

The dealer probably came down because no one else wanted it..

As far as the trade in it looks pretty standard..

Hopefully the truck doesn’t need to pass through wet grass or deep gravel on its zombie hunt.

Right? This seems like a terrible idea. I didn’t use 4wd often in hawaii but when I needed it, I NEEDED it and it was there for me.

Then again it’s not my money so whatever floats his Goat.

    I don't know @texasrho83

He owed ~$8k and will finance ~$10k plus they threw in an extended warranty for 5 yrs/60k more miles.

Warranty or not he was $2K closer to a paid-for vehicle that it seems he worked hard to make his own.
I never used my ext warranty on my 2014 or 2005 Tundras.
Plus I'd guess his interest rate was better on the first loan if he bought it new, than on a used vehicle.

Except for the hood protector and roof lights, his 4X4 2019 looked pretty sweet.:D
I love my DC and the 6.5' bed

But to each their own, I did vehicle impulse buying for more years than I should have.
It took getting into my late 40s when I finally appreciated the value of a paid-for vehicle..

Good luck to him, maybe he will pay this one off.

He didn't buy the 2019 new so it isn't like he had paid the loan down from that point. And what do you mean "except for the cab lights"?! lol

I know a guy (an older guy too) who has 8" on a 2WD. Looks pretty good actually. Now would I do it to a 2WD? No, but again, it's their money.

Yes the Zombie shit is, for lack of a better term, "cringe" lol it'll all come off. I'm sure my buddy will swap as much as he can.

I traded my 21 in at the same dealership. They gave me 50k for it, and listed it for like 51,500. We traded in the 19 Sequoia at another dealership around the same time. Around the same trade in value and markup when they listed it.
This was in late 2022, so the market hadn’t quite corrected itself yet. I was surprised at how little margin they made when they sold both of them. I did negotiate way more on my trade ins than they originally offered though. I believe both original trade offers were around 41k.
I don’t know if that’s normal used markup or if me pushing for the higher trade value ate up their margin. Seems like they’d have at least tried to get more though.

Unless he came out way ahead financially I don’t understand why he’d do this.

I don't either. He likes the mileage, knows it was meticulously taken care of, and thinks he'll get better fuel mileage since it's 2WD.

I can’t imagine the fuel mileage is any better, especially with the lift and tires. My 2011 2wd DC barely does better than any of the others I’ve had.

Crazy how the market has dropped in the last few years though. I bought my 17 SR5 4x4 with 3” lift new for 38,500.
When I brought it in for service in 2021 Gullo tried to buy it from for the same price I paid. It had around 60k on the odometer at the time. The sheet they gave me showed they thought they could sell it for 42k. They probably would have given me at least 40 if I’d been interested in selling it.

I think that lift is going to drink a lot of fuel.

I don’t understand why he would trade in a perfectly capable, newer and better optioned (4wd vs 2wd) truck on an older truck and take on more in loans. He could have used that money to lift his existing track which would have made more sense to me. It will be interesting to see if that extended warranty covers anything suspension related after the lift was installed……I would have kept the ‘19 regardless of miles.

Toyota VSA will not cover aftermarket suspension components. They won't void all of it due to a lift but any part that is not OEM on the truck will not be covered once failed. Depending on the service advisor and service manager lets say a wheel bearing goes bad some might cover it some might say no. I know in my service department i would take care of the customer on a bad wheel bearing with a lifted truck but some will not touch it and use any excuse they can.

More than likely they made their margin on the vehicle you purchased in the trade in.

Your buddy bought his neighbors truck from 2 houses down but all of this was done through the dealership? Why didn't he just offer to buy the neighbors truck private party and then sell his own truck private party? I understand there's extra finances that needed done but that could have all been taken care of through a credit union.

I’d need to see some undercarriage pix, interior, look at those tie rods, cv axels, and see if those are holding up

Yeah trust me I know the warranty system quite well when it comes to coverage on a lifted truck. Even with the proviso of coverage on a lift, I ran into issues.
