I am receiving conflicting information - when rotating tires do you simply rotate from front to back on the same side or go front driver to rear passenger, front passenger to rear driver, etc?

I do mine front to back. I believe that's what the manual shows as well.

Front to back. Back to front. Never had any issues.

You likely get conflicting info as there are more than one acceptable way to go about it and it varies some by drive type. Here is a basic diagram. There are others that are more complex though, especially if incorporating a full size spare into the mix.

I usually just do front to back but on my next set I may convert to the way shown in the 4th diagram.

I always follow the diagram as your tires will have a more even wear pattern. My way I used to remember is "drive straight", in other words the drive wheels move straight on the same side and the none drive wheels cross over to the other side.
