Unfortunately I needed to trade in my beautiful 2021 Platinum Tundra today because I really need a HD truck asap. I purchased 4 beautiful acres on Northern White Mountains NH to start a homestead. I’ll be building this spring . I ended up going with a leftover 2023 Ram 2500 Tradesmen single cab 8’ bed still sitting on the lot. I need a truck that can plow snow and tow over 10K. I was able to get $44K on my Tundra which was fair and after incentives and shrewd negotiation $9K off MSRP. I want to thank everyone here for the time I was here . It’s been fun!

When you need an HD truck, you need an HD truck. Toyota can't get there. The domestic OEMs dominate this space and what they can do in terms of capacity and capability is a modern marvel.

The White Mountains are amazing one of my favorite places to spend time
Whenever anybody visits the NE I always recommend a day trip over the Kancamagus Highway

You’re also welcome to join me over on Orange Tractor Talk dotcom. I’ve got the big brother to your tractor, a B2650.

Wish the R14 tires were available when I bought it. They were on the market, but just barely. Couldn’t get a set.

Coworker bought an L2501 the next year and has the R14. Same with a friend on his newer LX2610. But, he can’t add a MMM with the larger R14 on the LX from what I understand.

Regardless, I get by fine with the R4 Industrials. My land is flat…

Plowing snow can be really hard on automatic transmissions. Be careful!

That’s why I bought a HD 2500. I had a 2014 Ram 2500 with a straight plow 8’ and I had a 2018 Ram 2500 with a 8’6” V Plow . I used to plow a few commercial lots. Both trucks performed flawlessly while I had them . This 2023 has a 8 speed transmission made by ZF . On the test ride it shifted amazing smooth. It’s got the snow plow prep group which includes 2 alternators. That’s what it was designed for. I contemplated putting a Fisher HT plow on my 2021 Tundra but it doesn’t even have a transmission oil cooler. I didn’t want to destroy such a nice 1/2 ton truck by abusing it. I also needed more towing capacity & payload capacity.

Is it smarter to plow in low range? Can’t imagine you’re going super fast…

It depends on the snow depth and type. Actually momentum is your friend plowing as long as you know the surface.

You can shut of MDS using the tow/haul button or the manual gear select on the steering wheel. I always plow in tow/haul. I had both a Hemi 5.7 in my 2014 and the 6.4 in my 2018. Never a shortage of power plowing in my experience.

The only thing that would part me from our Tundra (for now) is payload, and it would be to go to an HD.

However, I’d be going begrudgingly, knowing that I’m going to be stepping into something less reliable and requiring more maintenance on my own time, which I have little of.

But I totally get it, if you need an HD, you need it and Toyotas not going to cut it.
