Nope. I disproved that in the EV thread. There is a whole section of required maintenance, you kool-aid swilling hipster fan boy! :p

I think the longest trip to date we've done in the Pilot so far was about 40 miles to a campground just outside town last summer. Future trips will be farther away but the wife's plan is to take the truck if I can get 3 car seats in the back safely.

I can't see us upgrading from the Corolla for another 10 or 15 years at least. The Tundra was the upgraded family hauler.

An oil change is $50 for me at the dealeship once a year due to my low mileage. Brakes are every 5+ years give or take and about $150 in parts and two adult beverages.

I also don't have a $15,000 to $60,000 battery to replace if it goes bad. :boink:

I think that’s cheaper than one here for an oil change.
The chances of one going bad, outside of warranty are extremely slim…I would have 8 years or 120k miles (more than Toyota!) to worry about that. The ones that go are the much (2015?) older models with the old ass battery pack and the ones that super charge them non stop, or over charge them

brakes are pretty much a lifetime for Tesla due to regen

I forgot, we do have to change out the cabin air filter every now and then

edit: one link you posted is a hybrid, but you’re also comparing two different battery manufacturers.

As to the EV thing, I think when I was shopping in late 2022, the Tesla Model Y was the only thing on the market that I could find that I thought would work and it cost about double what the Pilot did if I recall correctly, not to mention the costs to install a charger in my garage.

If and when our Corolla dies, I'll probably look around for a used Toyota, Lexus or Scion to replace it. I've gotten used to having a car for running around town on my own and getting double the fuel economy of the truck is just a plus.

We'll probably replace the Corolla with a RAV4, but it's so far into the future I'm not even thinking about it. Lol

On the mileage thing, I've only owned one vehicle that I didn't put 100K miles on. It was an 86 Mazda 626 turbo. I loved it and it got me many speeding tickets. But it was the only time in my life that I didn't have a 4WD so I traded it in on a 88 Isuzu Trooper. At the time we couldn't afford a third vehicle. Kept the Trooper for 225K+ miles but bought a new 98 as a reliable trip vehicle while keeping the 88 as a DD. They stopped making them in 2006 so I didn't get a 2008. Kept the 98 until 2013. The starter was going bad after 200K+, you had to pull the engine to replace it so I traded it for the 2013 Tundra that now has 115K miles.

That would have been the plan if our second kid didn't turn out to be twins.

May look at a Rav or something like a 4R or Passport when it's time to replace the Pilot (assuming the transmission holds out until the kids are all out of car seats).

I’ll have to find the receipt tmrw, but I did a search of email. Tires were $375 each at DT ($10/off per tire price match) and I got the road hazard warranty on each. Maybe it was around 1700 or so.

Holy shit man. Is that just because tire prices are up, or is there some special voodoo about a tire for a Tesla? Because that's a lot more money toward maintenance than I expected on a "maintenance free" vehicle.

Tire prices are high in general. Especially quality tires. I just quoted Cooper Discoverer at3s in 295/70R18 Friday and they came in at $1400 out the door. That's at least a quality tire. You can always buy some janky tires at $100 each, but I believe you get what you pay for. Especially tires

Ugh. I haven't bought tires since I got that smokin' deal on the Falkens for the Tundra. Wal-mart mislabeled them for just over $150 a tire, so I bought 5. I don't want to spend a thousand dollars on tires anymore. :(

I didn’t “need” tires technically, but the performance comes standard with summer tires so I needed to swap them out for cold temps. Summer tires really should not be ran with temps under 40* or so, as the tires will crack over time, and becomes a hazard to you and others
