Slow wipers

Good morning everyone, hope you’ve had a good week.

Was wondering if anyone else has had issues with slow moving wipers.

Just upgraded my 2000 SR5 to the better washer nozzles off the FJ (WAY better) but not sure if I need to find a way to lubricate linkage or need a new motor to speed them up?

 

Don't have any input on the speed, the motor may just be tired.

But what I will comment on is ... based on a single YT video I saw back in the day where the guy was replacing the linkage and had to remove the motor, and based on one thread here, the job to install the motor looked like it'd be annoying as hell.

IIRC @KNABORES has been thru this, and may have some input. @bmf4069 may have some choice words also after working on his kid's Sequoia

 

My experience with “slow” or poorly functioning wipers was a bad bushing in the wiper transmission linkage. They do not sell the bushing, or did not when I was looking. I purchased a new linkage that was supposedly compatible, but seems to have too long a throw. If it were possible I would have swapped the bushing over to my OE linkage but it didn’t work out that way.

 

Appreciate the info. Sounds like a long day of taking crap apart is in my future!

 

That last video talks about the bushing itself IIRC, and how that degrades things.

 

Yup, fuck that wiper linkage. That video you posted with the gold sequoia is the one I followed. The linkage from RockAuto works fine, but is a bit longer. Just make sure you orient everything the right way or it won't work right. And good luck with those bolts. I couldn't get the 3rd ones one because of that piss poor design.

 

Duh, in the washer fluid reservoir, sumbitches will be moving extra fast….

 

It's not really time consuming, it's just a pita. Everything comes apart fine, it's getting it back in and lined up that sucks. It's maybe an hour long job. Getting the arm tied back on the motor sucks ass.
