Just now seeing a 2012 Limited with 297,000 miles. Price 12,000 & change. Says 4 wheel low doesn't engage. How serious might that be? For that price, I might be willing to fix that if not a critical flaw.

Use it as a bargaining margin if you choose this route. Even if they are already offering a low price, when a truck comes with known problems at that mileage it opens the door for bargains. And this is after you research the issue and have a good idea of an estimated dollar amount for resolving it.

It could just need a transfer case flush and possibly replacing the actuator. But that's just internet theory's. Could be more involved.

Drove an 03 Tundra Limited Saturday. Decent truck but heavy smoking odors. We will check it out again after they've detailed it. May make an offer if they can get the smell out. That can be hard to do. I've read about having to clean multiple times and put bags of charcoal everywhere, etc. It was smoked in for several years. Amazing though, no cigarette burns. I used to smoke and I recall burning a few expensive clothes and my car seats or carpets. Fortunately didn't damage anyone else's stuff.

Looking at an 06 double cab SR5 Monday. Saw it Saturday but dealer wasn't open to drive it. Carfax says it lived most of its life in Ohio. Anyone here from Ohio? How bad is road salt there in winter? I used to have inlaws there but they are passed away now.

I wouldn't let them total your old one. By law you are allowed to buy back the truck and not get a salvage title. They call it a rolling total. They tell you what the buy back is and give you the rest in cash plus you get you sales tax back. Also 4600 sounds a little low, since you can barely buy one to replace it for that price. If you have done any major repairs/upgrades like, new trans, engine work, tires, new brakes, etc, the ins co has to make an allowance for that which increases the value of your truck. Ins co. job is to low ball you and give you as little as possible for your vehicle and hope they sell it at auction to recoup most of it. I had a restoration/body shop for 30 years and helped many owners keep their cars with no salvage on them. My one customer had a 2004 Mini Cooper S 72k limited edition, they were gonna total it and give him 12500 for it, he did what I told him and got all but 1600 in cash from the ins co., was able to keep the car w/ no salvage title. He needed a bigger car for his new family so I bought it off him for the 1600 and fixed it for another 600. Still have it today. As far as parts go Toyota sold a ton of these trucks and new aftermarket and used parts are plentiful.

He had pics up and truck didn't look that bad. Plus Toyota did the TSB for the frames mainly in the NE so chances are it got a new one at some point. Which included many of the parts that would rust.

The 4,600 was for me to keep it. I am selling it to a guy that does his own work and wants to rebuild it. He is paying the difference to make up what I
Well, that part's a done deal now. I may live to regret it, who knows? I am actually selling the truck to a guy who wants to rebuild it and use for a hunting truck. So I do get out with about $5600.

Well glad that someone will get to rebuild it and not scrap it. Many people don't know what their rights are concerning insurance claims and I've seen many a good vehicle scraped or with a salvage title where there shouldn't be.

    1. Had a change of plan. Saw this Sunday night on Craigslist. Almost the same as the one Saturday. Went to see it Monday in Greensboro NC. Bought it and drove it home. I’m pleased with it. 03 Limited. I don’t think I’d seen this variation before with the tapered bed & footstep. Dealer was Autofocus. Highly recommend them. Lots of what I’ve seen were priced way above Kelley Blue Book. These guys were in the range. Plus they had just installed a timing belt & water pump. They handled all the paperwork with DMV too. $10,200 out the door.

Stoked for you to see you back in a truck you wanted and are happy with. How many miles are on it?

Good deal congratulations on the new ride. Yes the stepside version is pretty rare. Seen a few, kind of a cool edition.

What's the difference in MPG? Especially heading west on I70?

Straight freeway miles on the 4.7 avg around 17, 12 towing.

Town on the 4.7 avg 15 ish

Straight freeway miles on the 5.7 avg around 14, 10 towing.

Town on the 5.7 avg 12ish

They key is not driving 75-80 mph up the passes when heading west out of the city. The 5.7 wants to go that fast so it's hard to not find yourself cruising 75-80 on I-70. I live in the mountains though and try to drive west from here more than I drive East. I'd rather head to a desert over a city any day.

Mines at 288k miles I'm second owner and I was an A Yota Tech so it's always been taken good care of. Mobil1 every 5k, mostly OEM parts, new frame, brake upgrades, mint interior etc. So your new one with 205k if it was well taken care of is just break-in miles. Good luck with it.
