now if NK launches a nuke on us, I don't think all that prepping will help. Unless you invested in a nuclear shelter :)

Yeah, that's really all this is about, just to get everyone thinking...nothing more.
We are a farily tight group here and personally I think it's just good thing to be prepared and share thoughts.

costco or Amazon run deals on de-hydrated food from time to time. They will feed a family for a week or so.
Also have a plan for when SHTF. Comms will be down so work as a team with your wife/neighbors and have a rally point known ahead of time.

I'm good. One reason I don't have anything electronic safehousing (gun safes..etc) what I need to get to keep a mild perimeter for a minimal amount of time.

I don't store water, I have water filtration systems. I may have a bit of bottled water, but not drums. One cannot store enough water for the long haul. I actually know people that have twenty 55 gallon drums of water stored. I don't have that kind of room. If not treated properly...it is a waste anyway. Now if you live in desert areas, my advice changes.

I do have food. Very wise decision. I find it humorous to actually hear people say "I can hunt..." when there would be thousands of people trying to do the same thing. Good flippen luck. I've seen enough caos with trained people with guns. Imagine a bunch of untrained people with guns.

Having a plan is a damn good idea. We have routes, locations, places for messages on others locations...etc. it will take my family 4 days to get on location by foot. Driving is most likely not happening, especially if it is an EMP pulse, unless you have a vehicle with no electronic ignition. Even then, driving might not be a good idea.

I also don't plan onstaying in my house more than 4-6 weeks, if that long, depending on what is going on. Homes are hard to defend if someone wants in, or wants you out. Pretty easy actually unless you built it on the sole purpose for defending against small arms fire. Now if you have all this stored in your home, how is one to carry it with them? The answer is "your not." Kinda the same therory on weapons and ammo. I know what we as a family can tote for a few days...and it isn't much in reality.

    Things to remember:

Don't buy over 3 months of dried food at a time for the same reason not to buy over 1000 rounds of ammo at a time.

Have a plan with other people you trust. Everyone has to do their part. If you have two families that have planned ahead and then take in two families that didn't do shit, your putting yourself at serious risk. Have the right mindset. Can't save everyone, and it isn't your fault they didn't prepare.

Research long term storage on food. For example, if you want to store flour, you need to freeze it first, then store it.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Enough said about that.

Money isn't going to matter. Ammo and food is going to be like gold.

It's my feeling that you can never have enough supplies no matter what the scenario and do not depend on the gooberment for your assistance for at least a week or more. FEMA..Fix Everything My Ass as we called it after Katrina ..I won't expound on them but not what promised. Ultimately you can rely on only yourself and living in New Orleans I have my essentials..beans, bullets and band aids we just flood here because of hurricanes and we can handle things pretty well just like any other city when the residents come together and help and support each other.

Your water will be fine, unless it doe not smell right. Even then you can boil it and it will be fine. We stock pile water. Lots of it.

The best thing for water is fire. Most parts of the country have access to some form of water be it a lake or stream or wells etc. One of the most reliable forms of water purification is by boiling it. For that reason, I always carry a lighter and a backup fire-starter in my truck. Light, cheap and can save your life in the case of an emergency.

    A thought-

Try and make everything you buy have a secondary use, will it be any good when you have no power, a flood, fire, earth quake, hurricane, toranado, mudslide, or a dam EMP from the guy with a bad haircut? It is really a list that can be worked and manageable over time.

    Edit-
Generally speaking canned foods are usually good for the 2 year date stamped on the can and actually beyond. This is per a friend manager in the grocery biz. So it gives consumers two years plus before food is bad in a can. This is a good bench mark for rotating canned foods. FWIW...
