Am I crazy, but is my 2.5 gen tundra missing a bunch of features my 2nd gen had? I had a 2013 2WD 5.7L Double Cab Grade with 6 seat bench. It was the work truck model with vinyl seats. I now have a 2015 4x4 5.7L Double Cab SR5 also with the 6 seat bench. So far from what I've noticed, I'm missing the following features:

    Second glovebox
    Rear door map pockets/cup holders
    Cup holders under the radio
    Transmission temp gauge
    Drive seat height adjustment
Driver grab handle on A pillar
Front door "ashtray" (little compartments near the door handle)
    Driver seat rear pocket

Some aren't that big of a deal, but some I really liked. Why would they omit a bunch of storage when the room is there for it? It's not like my last truck was a high end model. It was the cheapest trim.

    I hear you.

My 21' limited is only slightly more optioned than my '08 grade.

I'm not sure I like the console shift vs my column shift. I don't need that 6th seat, but it was handy on the rare occasion I hauled my full squad.

I really liked the under seat storage in the middle front seat.
Nice place to stash an emergency bottle of booze.

I miss that A pillar grab handle the most. I'm sure I'm gonna pony up the $90 or so to get it.

At least you can add one. Most of the features I listed can't be added.

Always thought that was weird. My double cab 08 has way more storage and utility inside the cab than my friends 19 crew cab. Triple center console cup holders ruined me for later years

Toyota probably paid for the whole mid-generation facelift by deleting all that stuff.

I agree in full, I like the exterior styling of the 2.5 better, but the functionality is far better with the gen2. Coming from a 2g Sequoia was even a bigger let down with the loss of full-time 4x4 capability and a fully boxed frame. Still a nice truck though!

Toyota does this every generation. Look what they deleted in the 3rd gen… Tow hooks, rear bumper step, and reliability.

There's more. Standard dual zone climate control, a 12v power socket in the console that stays on, the doublecab power rear slider used to be available on the sr5, no faux leather owners manual pouch, amber rear turn lamps, a bigger engine air filter, a quieter muffler and mini resonator behind it, the engine skid plate and trans cooler on the latest 2.5gen... I'm sure I missed something.

The rear door panels will fit. Someone here on the forum has done it.

the air filter is different??? I had a bunch left over from my last truck I was hoping to use on this one. I didn't think they would change it.

Yup it's a 2-clip box with a square edged paper filter rather than the previous 4-clip box with the rounded corner filter that had the fibrous depth-loading media. At least one person here had sealing issues on the tab-end of the 2-clip box with certain aftermarket filters. However all connection points look identical so a 4-clip 2nd gen box should drop right in. It's on my to-do list.

Would there be any MAF or ECM inputs that would be thrown off if you swapped to the larger air box? Curious on what the end result would be. Sounds like a question for Keith @dirtydeeds

2.5 Crew Cab models deleted the sliding/reclining rear seats.

My daughters LOVE their La z Boys in our 13...

My gen2.5 dash and console was a pleasant discovery after gen2-like curved dashes I had to deal with in other vehicles in past. Top of its dash is flat and can hold papers. The recess in the middle padded with rubber is handy for change or hand-held satellite communicator (it needs to see skies). Console around gearbox level is well organized, it has a lot of flat space that can hold small things without sinking in cavities or sliding to floor.

Wife's gen2 Sequoia was a step back in that respect. It has nothing I mentioned above. It has two useless small pockets in the dash, what are they for? Map holder proved to be largely useless. We used it in one 2 weeks trip, to hold a tablet that wife intended to use for maps browsing, googling and making reservations. However we traveled abroad and she managed to lost her roaming-enabled cell phone in the second day, so the tablet was useless :)

Similarly, we haven't used any storage in door handles. It is not padded, if you put a change in there, it will rattle like mad.

There's no place for cell phones in Sequoia. My Tundra has a neat cavity in armrest box lid. Another phone can rest just in front of transmission lever. We were using maps slot in Sequoia, but reaching for mine or her phone was inconvenient.

Not sure about driver's seat height adjustment. Mine has it, and it is a basic SR5 trim. Guess, it comes with SR5 Upgrade package, which my truck has.
