Unable to respond to group/mass text using stock headunit

I didn't get any hits on my post in the Audio/Video forum so I'm reposting here.

I'm unable to respond to group/mass texts using the stock headunit in my 2016 Tundra SR5.
If someone texts just me, I can respond to them using the pre-programmed responses. But if someone texts me as part of a mass/group text and I try to reply, the headunit says there was an error sending the response and no one ever gets it. I thought it was my old Galaxy S8 phone just having issues but I just got a new Galaxy S23 and am having the same problem. Anyone else run into this issue and know how to fix it?

 

I’ve run in to this issue with other head units/phones. I’m told that if you name the group - if that’s possible on your phone - you can respond. Otherwise, I haven’t been able. But I usually ignore group texts for a while anyways until I have a minute to stop and follow along.

 

Thanks for the suggestion. I can't find a way to name the group on mine but I'll ask my kids as I'm sure they've figured that out. Yeah, if it was just group gossip then it would wait till I'm no longer driving. This is for my family that almost always communicate over a group text so we all know what's going on. For example, last week, when I was stuck in traffic because of the weather (-15F with -30F windchill), I wanted to quickly send a preprogrammed "I'm stuck in traffic" to the last message from them so they could wait inside the school rather than freeze waiting outside.

 

Totally understandable. My group chat is my wife - if anybody wants to know where I am, they have to ask her
