Tonneau cover drainage

Hi team - I have a retracting tonneau cover, where water drains from the drum via two tubes into the bed’s drainage holes. I haven’t done any extra drilling, so I’ve found that even if a small rock or leaf blocks the drainage hole, I’ll sometimes end up with a pool of water in my bed. Has anyone found a good solution?

My thought is to drill into the bed’s drainage holes and then connect the drain lines directly to that larger hole. Not thrilled about drilling, so would love to avoid that. Also, if you were to go with that setup, what about if water happens to get into the bed via another route (leak or tailgate being open)…how does that water drain then?

I have a retractable cover as well and with the holes I just reamed them out with a step bit,but my concern was that the cheap plastic drainage nipples kept falling out and water draining into the bed.
I can see your concern about it getting clogged by a pebbles or debris, anything is possible,but unless your bed is carpeted or have precious cargo I wouldn't sweat the small stuff.

I ended up modifying the plastic portion aspects and used brass a ridged SS sink water feeds.

 

Dang - legit upgrade! So did you just step up the hole a bit larger than the replacement tube? After a big rain the other day I ended up with almost an inch of water in the bed, just due to a tiny rock blocking the drain.

 

Yes only by a fraction,the barbed fitting I drilled twice to make 4 holes @ 7/32" one thread up from the closest to prevent water poolage
and smelling like the town pool.

 

Do you remember the size of that brass fitting? I've been doing a lot of local searching, and I can't seem to find anything similar. Did you get it at a specialty place?

 

It is 3/4X1/2 NPT you can get them any hardware store Homies or Blows AKA Home Depot & Lowes.
