I just picked up my new 2024 double cab SR5 last Saturday. It’s beautiful! I bought this to replace my 2007 DC SR5 which I also bought brand new 16 years ago. Both of them are long beds and 4WD.

I’m overwhelmed by how much has changed in 16 years! The most notable difference is how much I have to do to connect my truck. Driving it home had me feeling distracted, and I’m no stranger to tech. I was born in ‘78, so every car I’ve owned up until now didn’t require me to do anything more than just get in and turn the key. I blame Toyota for making trucks last so long that it left me behind the times. I’m not complaining (even though it sounds like that), just making an observation on how wildly different things are between then and now.

This truck is so smooth and quiet. I love that it behaves exactly like my last one did when it was brand new.

One big change is that the back seat configuration is going to force me to carry my tools differently now. My 07 had open floor space when I flipped the seats up, the new one doesn’t. I will probably need a tonneau cover now to move some of that into the bed. I’ve been looking for tonneau/ ladder rack combos for 8’ beds for this truck and I’m coming up short. Do any of you have a setup that you like? I think I’m really limited on options in my situation.

I’m really going to miss having a 6th seat. I’ll adapt though. Looking forward to another long run with a big beautiful truck! The stainless steel exhaust and coated frame are huge improvements! The change in suspension and bed components are amazing too. The underside is as pretty as the outside. Can’t wait to hit that 1,000 mile mark…

Welcome to the 3rd Gen. The search function will help you a lot in your inquiries. If you get a lot of snow get rid of them tires pronto . I would start with Thule for a rack.

    Thanks!
And yeah- those tires are a tad lame. I always used Bridgestone Dueller Revo 2 on my last truck. Those were great (way different than the reg Dueller).
I’ll keep looking for a cover. Trac Rac (now Thule) used to have an awesome combo one.

Congrats ! Did you keep the 07 .. and how many miles on it ?? Was tough enough for me to give up my 16, even as the 2nd owner!

I’m selling the ‘07. It has 224K on it. That truck was absolutely the best vehicle I ever owned. It would have been worth repairing and maintaining, but I need to keep up with the times and have a connected phone. Plus, it’s just nice to have something new.
