All other things being equal, a made in Japan car will always be better than a made in the USA one.

I just had a 2023 4 runner limited as a loaner with only 1,000 miles on it, I have to say, it didnt feel "better made" than my tundra.

I wouldn't sell toyota USA workers and factories that short.

There used to be a time when people thought anything made in Japan was junk. That was back in the 70s and 80s.

As someone who owns a japanese made 4 runner, and has owned two US made Trucks (taco/tundra) i disagree with the country of origin bias towards japan. Just my personal experience though.

My wife has a new VW EV that was made in Tennessee, I had a Honda Ridgeline made in Alabama, And a Tundra made in Texas. I think they are built pretty well compared to my German made BMW and VW's which were my benchmarks. My Honda's from the 90's were very good as well and made in Japan.

The global supply and manufacturing helps to blur the borders.

It really comes down to the quality and work ethic of the workers in these plants to produce a good product.

    Just my $0.02!

Man I hope your ‘24 doesn’t fail. That would be your second one.

Toyota manufacturing is more about corporate philosophy of "kiazen" or continuous improvement, addressing issues on the assembly line as they pop up rather than other manufacturers just letting them slide with the attitude of "that's what warranty is for" along with pressuring part vendors to cut costs.

    Update #3

Service Advisor has requested all of my oil change invoices on behalf of Toyota Corporate
They were able to see all the services I had done at Toyota in the States however oil changes done at dealerships in Canada or other shops are not visible to them.
Thankfully all are up to date and were done and a few hundred miles early. Toyota recommends oil changes at 10k Miles for the record.
Will update soon on what happens next.

At this point it is obvious this is becoming a common occurrence. Since posting my engine failure, another 2-3 have popped up here with the exact issue at low miles.
Hard to estimate how many of these failures we don't know about. There are a lot of older guys driving these around and I am doubtful they are on the forums talking about them.

My thoughts exactly. Many people on this forum mostly 3rd gen owners think it’s below 1% based on what’s on this page but in reality only Toyota knows the exact number.

So, when people in the know confirm less than 1 percent, you speculate nope, can’t be. Because the interwebs complaining and a guy who knows a guy on the interwebs says. Get over yourselves. lol. Too funny.

Who exactly are these people "in the know" which you speak of, are they on the internet, or do you know something the rest of us are unaware of somehow?

The first oil change suppose to be 1000 or 10,000? I thought I read in the Manual 1000 but when I took my truck in they said 10,000

Disregard that and change at 1000, then every 5000.

This is the question that launched a million other questions, which continues to this day. What I do is change the original oil at 1000 or less, and then every 5k after that. There will be some that agree with me, and some that won't, its just the way it is.

But I mean as far as Toyota and their warranty. It sounds like they asked this guy for his oil change receipts to even consider helping him. I’m wondering what exactly they would require. Do they require one at 1000? What if you miss one by a few miles or you are on a long trip etc. I’m trying to figure out how insane they are about it as far as rejecting your warranty.

They don't require one at 1k, that's just what some here do, including me. I really wouldn't lose sleep about a certain dealership and what they claim to need. Toyota recommends 10k intervals and most here ignore that and do 5k.

Sooo im in the market for a new tundra. I got a dealer offering a decent deal on a 2023 SR5 that looks built in early 2023. Should I take that, or wait for a 2024 that I’d like? I can be patient if that’s the smarter move, but I wouldn’t mind savin a few bucks if the concerns really aren’t that bad.

Buy it, spend $1000-2000 more on a Toyota Platinum warranty, and enjoy. How long you plan on keeping it would dictate length of warranty. Drive, smile, and enjoy!
    Extended warranty is a no-brainer.

If it were me, I would wait a bit and keep looking.
The engine failures will be even less likely then they already are and their Kaizen method will keep refining the product
