Interchange 8in for 14in display?

I’m not keen on the idea of purchasing a unit and then owning a paperweight, or losing a chunk of money if the return is even accepted.

I’ve heard from some aftermarket sellers stating the backup camera will work;however, you need to use their camera. As far as Sirius/XM option it’s not available, but you can us the app on your phone, or download the app directly on the unit itself.

 

Has anyone tried this? I can’t find a 361 that isn’t damaged.

 

So on another thread the OP did use a JBL head unit and seems to have connectivity…everyone says the non JBL are the ones to use but are difficult to find now. Can anyone confirm if they have had luck with the JBL head units as well?

 

Anyone that swapped to the 14in do you guys get any navigation fault codes or brake codes?

 

Finally got my hands on one. Has anyone else had to have Toyota unlock the radio? Mine is stuck in guest mode.

 

I've had mine installed for months now, I also have the guest issue. Not sure if it toyota locked them out or not. It doesn't concern me. I only use Android Auto and not the navigation. I also dont have power mirrors or power seats to adjust. I love the swap.

 

I assume you don’t use the radio?

 

The actual radio tuner? yes it works. I use it for local football games at times, thats about it. Everything works as it should, its just logged into guest mode and I cant subscribe to navigation, which I wouldn't anyways since I use AA 99% of the time

 

I can’t subscribe to Sirius Xm. It will not pull up the radio code.

 

Gotcha. I dont use Sirius either. Theres a Sirius App for AA or Carplay, whichever you have as an option. Have you tried a full factory reset?

 

Mine too is stuck in guest mode. Called Toyota and they dont know how to unlock it and told me to take it back to the dealer. Anyone find a solution outside of wasting time at the dealership? Have tried every reset possible.

 

Not that I can help, but I'm curious about both of your situations:

• Did you both have a non-JBL 8" head unit that you replaced with a JBL 14" head unit?
• Or, are having this issue after you installed a non-JBL 14" head unit?

On a side note: Thanks for confirming my suspicions on the SiriusXM availability, @Mattrulez. That sucks. I know a lot of folks poo poo on sat radio, saying it's easily replaced with Apple Music/Spotify/Amazon Music. However, I rely on quite a bit. In the vast expanses of Nevada, it's very easy to be without cell coverage and I mostly use SiriusXM for that reason. I wonder if people with the aftermarket head units from AliExpress can subscribe to SiriusXM? I assume you could, but none of the people who have made the aftermarket swap use it and can't weigh in on it.

 

My situation i was told was rare but I had the non-JBL 8" head unit and had the truck for less than a week and the radio had an internal short-smoke came out the dash and the dealership replaced the same a new 8" head unit. I told them to replace it with the 14" as I do not trust the 8" head unit not starting a fire/electrical short again...

When i recieved it back I hadnt noticed it was stuck in guest mode until a few days later. Hate to take it back in to the dealership and waste my time but its looking like ill have to do that. Andriod Auto works alright but do get connectivity issues with it. Hoping an update will fix my problems with it.

 

I got mine off ebay but if you got yours straight from Toyota its not a lock, its something else. Like I said, I personally dont care but hopefully it gets fixed in an update. I honestly thought there would be more updates for the headunits.
You can see the serial numbers and radio id in the About tab, would that help for Sirius?

 

Hi T315, I did the same thing as yours, but I couldn't find the wire harness to plug into the volume assy, is it hidden somewhere? Have you figured out how to sign in or it's stuck in the guest mode?

 

Have the part numbers been updated? See the non-JBL screens now as 86100-0C401

Any difference in the 360 and 361 units? Some of this guys eBay listings specify different years but I don’t know which one for a 2024 (or if it even matters)

Agreed. I did the swap back in the spring and have had zero issues. The only thing is its stuck on guest. Doesn't matter, everything else works and I use Android Auto 99% of the time anyway

 

Are yours can update the software?

As for the blacklisting issue, I think @ryanwgregg can explain better than I what that means.

 

If u not sync the vin,,will not work coz u cannot connected to your account,,but remote key fob still work fine

Man this vid really makes me appreciate the Pro's blacked out vents! Which would be a better option to order instead of time sawing the silvers down.

 

Works been crazy so finally got around to posting. Bought a unit off of AliExpress last summer and a 360 camera system to go along with it. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless you feel pretty good about wiring, installing cameras, and troubleshooting. Wireless Apple CarPlay works great, the side view cameras come on automatically when I put on my turn signal, and the reverse camera (not factory) works when I put the truck in reverse.

It also has all the benefits of being an android head unit (Netflix, YouTube, etc.)

 

I just did the swap with the 361 head unit….takes minutes. Yes I’m stuck in guest mode as well but don’t really care. Actually one upside of not registering is my XM radio still works and I’m well past my free 3 month trial….im thinking they may not be able to track my head unit

The only feature I can’t figure out is my alignment grid for the reverse camera isn’t showing…have to keep playing to see if I get get it on. The old 8” unit had the lines and a zoom feature.

 

How did you install the extra cameras? Sounds like a great upgrade.

 

Confirmed working. Now onto the volume knob add on. Any vids up for it?
