ok, I wasn't aware it had a DSP integrated. If that box is checked, then can move on to the next step. Have to do something to the stock signal so thats good.

I went more elaborate in my 16, full aftermarket head unit, 3-way focals, JL sub, 2 JL amps, etc. I may put some of that back in here (2023) so I will add a stand alone DSP likely then out to the AMPs, but thats a little different deal.

I just installed an Alpine PXE-C60-60, so far I like it. Has a lot of adjustments if you are tuning on a PC, just waiting on the microphone I ordered to come so I can make time alignment adjustments

Thanks to all for the additional input. Perhaps I should have made this more clear earlier ... I have no intention of replacing either the JBL head-end or the amp. Based on what's been provided here thus far, it seems the best first step is to clean up the source from the head-end using a solution from Beat-Sonic, Kicker, or JL Audio, and I'm leaning towards Beat-Sonic based on both feedback here (and other sites) and ease of installation. The Kicker and JL Audio units seem to be more involved but, that could be because there is (seems to be) less information available based on other's experience. If adding one of these units doesn't provide the desired results, I'll consider replacing speakers. However, based on what I'm hearing from various sources, the speakers installed with the JBL system in Gen 3 Tundras are worth working with ...

So this is not the upgraded JBL system from the factory but the oem system? How would you know what components were in the actual JBL system unless you tore into someone else's truck? My JBL audio system isn't going to win any awards but it is decent for a truck imo.

There are different speakers for the JBL versus non JBL, the 6x9's in the doors are-- non JBL- 861600E340 with a list price of $58.07 each and JBL- 8616006850 with a list price of $521.52 each. Same goes for the dash 3" and the rear components. I can tell you from professional experience as I have worked in the past for car audio manufacturers that also provide to the OEMs that regardless of amplified (JBL) versus non amplified systems (non JBL) you are not getting the same quality in the OEM as you are in the aftermarket. In other words, if you were to remove the "OEM" JBL speaker you would find that even the lowest priced JBL aftermarket speaker you can get off the shelf from Best Buy, Crutchfield, etc will be a much better made speaker. Even the OEM JBL speaker is going to have a paper cone, foam surround, and slightly larger magnet to accommodate/match the power output of the OEM JBL amplifier. The "upgraded" audio systems in the OEM are merely a marketing tool for the OEM's to squeeze extra profit from the vehicle. Most consumers aren't going to go through the hassle of pulling their vehicle apart to see the quality of the equipment used. Sound is subjective and most people like yourself are going to be satisfied with the upgrade. The JBL upgrade has a list price of $565 on the sticker, but when you want to replace one speaker, the cost of the speaker is nearly the cost of the entire upgrade on the sticker. Not to mention that you can buy a high quality set of 6x9 components Like Morel, Focal, etc. for less than $521 for the set.

so has anyone been able to justify the jbl premium sound vs the non jbl premium? I have a limited with the premium and its pretty good. I am looking to buy a 2024 limited with just the plain jbl, does anyone know if I will be disappointed? The only time it kicks ass is on one local radio station that broadcast in HD and let it makes use of the sub more than any other audio like satellite radio, spotify or other hd radio channels. Yes i do have surround sound off. Anyone with their opinion to give will be great. It wont be a deal breaker if everyone says its not good.

nobody will be able to tell you if you’ll be disappointed or not, what sounds good or doesn’t sound good to a specific person is super subjective

can you go to the dealer and listen to one yourself?

Agree with Breathing Borla, but I can share my experience having owned a ‘22 SR5 with Premium sound and now owning the ‘23 Pro with JBL.

Like you, I thought the Premium sound was ok, not good or great, but not terrible. I’ve been happy with the JBL compared to the Premium sound. I’d say it is good, but not great.

Wish it was as good as the Mark Levinson in Lexus LX570, but I’m not willing to spend the money necessary to equal, or exceed, that sound quality.

That's what I was kids hoping to hear. It's worth the sacrifice for everything else in getting with the 2024. Thank you for your opinion

I have all of my music on a usb stick. I ripped all of it from cd's with very little compression at 320kps and my jbl systems sounds pretty good to me until you turn it up too loud. When it's playing at a high volume I tend to hear vibration in the doors but I do have some stuff in the door pockets lol. I personally think it's worth the small price for the upgrade.

It could have something to do with the availability of JBL components and trying to get the trucks built and delivered to dealers on a timely basis. I know that's a flimsy excuse but they are still delivering trucks with only one key fob.

I don't believe the actual upgraded JBL system has been shown to have non JBL components...?

After Reading Through This Thread I Have Hope For My 2024 Limited Hybrid. I Absolutely Hate The “JBL 12-Speaker Premium” System. I Bought
Focal Utopia 165W-XP Components, Focal Amp,
Focal EC 165K (For Rear Doors), And A
    Focal FSP-8 DSP.
I Purchased These Items For My F-150 But Never Installed Them. Happy That I Didn’t. Does Anybody Know If Having The Hybrid Will Be A Problem? I Definitely Want The Sub Replaced As Well.
My Tacoma Had Focal K2 Powers And JL Audio Stealthbox And That Was An Amazing System With The Kenwood HU.
    Any Advice Would Be Appreciated.

Focal tweeters and JL audio drivers/subs are pretty much as good as it gets imo.

I was happy with the JBL system in my 2008 Tundra and the four Siennas I have owned. My current 2022 1794 Edition sounds great too.
But I am getting fitted for hearing aids next week so maybe my opinion sucks?
    Peace. D

Appreciate this info and anyone that may be able to provide some insight for me. I am gearing up for a nice weekend project and plan to install sound deadening on the doors as a start (other areas added later). Since I will have the door panels off I thought it would be a good time to replace the door speakers. I’ve read about ohm levels being important but honestly don’t know enough on this. I have the factory upgrade jbl system.

The overall idea is to improve sound quality and potentially future proof the doors in case I add a different amplifier down the road. So my goal is to have quality door speakers that would work on factory amp for now.

I may upgrade the amp down the road so just looking for ideas. Starting with sound deadening, clearer quality sound, and the powered sub that I added. So going for a stepped approach as budget allows.
    TIA

I have the jbl system and replaced everything but the tweeters in the a pillars and will be re-installing them in the rear doors. I used 4 ohm speakers and did experience a decrease in volume but only slightly. Overall the increase in sound quality was worth it. Installing the beat sonic amp helped restore the lost volume and did make the sound more pleasing overall. If you go the beat sonic route, i recommend putting it in the glove box instead of behind the radio.

Be careful in tweeter selection. The factory uses silk/fabric dome tweeters which are hard to beat (imho) the polymer dome (don't care which type) resulted in very harsh highs.

This is my post documenting how and what I did.

Appreciate this info. I’m not interested in the Beatsonic amp at all. Anyone know if there are good options to replace the door speakers while I have it apart? I believe I read 2 ohm was ideal somewhere? Again just trying to put in better quality while the doors are apart and potentially connect them to new amp down the road. If I’m off base that’s ok too. TIA

It's a 4 ohm system based on some impedance testing I did. Using 2 ohm speakers could damage it. I like the pioneers i have for the bass response and mids but dislike their tweeters. Their tweeters are simply to harsh. The factory tweeters are decent but I still on a quest to find some I like that will eliminate the sibalance. Take a look at my install thread, there are links to some professional installs that are pretty nice.
