Greetings all. New owner of a 2012 Crewmax here. So far i love the truck apart from one tiny problem. This will be my first post, in which I will be asking for help. I'm sure that's a pretty common theme around here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Like the title says, I have replaced the actuator on the front diff, verified that the collar on the inside that the actuator works moves freely, and I know the TC is engaging because with the rear wheels jacked up the front driveshaft turns in sync with the rear. The fluid in the diff is clean. I had a friend move the 4WD switch on the dash while sitting under the truck and can hear the TC engage but there is no noise from the new actuator on the diff. The 4HI light just flashes in the dash. I know it's technically possible that they sent me a defective actuator but I have a feeling the problem lies elsewhere. Problem is, I have no idea where elsewhere is. From what I can tell, I seem to be the only Toyota owner that still can't get the diff to engage even after replacing the actuator. Is it possible that I have a new electrical issue somewhere? I've heard about problems relating to the ABS system but all ABS connectors are plugged in and there is no fault light for thr ABS. Like I said, any help would be appreciated, and I look forward to joining your community.

I went through something similar on my 2008. The transfer case shifts first and then the ADD. On mine, I couldn’t get it to shift out of 4WD one day. Turned out to be a broken wire. The factory manual has a pretty good trouble shooting section on it. At least the one for my 08 does.

This is pretty easy and doesn’t cost anything. I would check continuity through the wire harness from the ADD to the 4WD Control Unit (mine was on the passengers side to the right of the glove box). I had to take the glove box out to make it easy but that only took a couple of minutes.

The wire diagram is available in the “Electrical” forum. But there is a picture below. I also included a picture of the connectors with the pin outs (I’m pretty sure they are the same).

I found that electrical diagram you referenced, however the colors of the wires don't seem to be laid out in the same way on my connector as they are on thr diagram. Regardless, I'm about to grab a meter and do some continuity checks. Thanks for the tip on the 4WD control unit.

This pdf has been posted several times on the forum. I’m not sure if it will help or not. But maybe. The picture of the connector earlier is from my 08 manual so it may be a little different.

Following. Going thru the exact same. My time is limited and ended bringing it to a local shop. They’re going to check my 4wd ecu first thing Monday. Really hoping it’s that, if not the short or break in the wire is going to be somewhere deeper in the wiring harness which is going to suck. I’ll update next week. Please post if you find anything
