So what do you think it will appraise for???

My truck will be at the dealership tomorrow for some service; the Sales team wants to buy my truck and sell me a new one (the answer is no, BTW). What do you think they will offer me for my truck? I'm curious enough to let them appraise it. Poor guy doesn't know what he's in for.

    Pertinent details:
2013 Double Cab 4wd 5.7 TRD Off road with tow package, 197k miles. 1 owner. Clean history, no accidents (bambi head butting the bumper doesn't count; just needed some plastics).

Less pertinent to the dealer details:
Katzkin leather with front heated seats, Dobinson remote reservoir suspension, 3 leaf add a leaf, air bags, front and rear TRD sway bars, Auburn Limited Slip, camper shell (wrong color), Bedslide 1500XL Full extension, upgraded stereo, CBI Skids. And... the reason it's being "serviced" at the dealership... a Whipple Supercharger.. :D

My guess is... lowballed at $12-14k.

Sounds like a pretty well sorted rig that you've put a lot of time and money into, glad you're not selling! Also pics of said truck and we'll be better able to guess their offer :p

    I bet they don't even offer $10k.

    Subbed for results.

Expect a offer from the dealer be about 60% of what you could get in a private sale

Thanks! It's been a great truck for me. It's a little picture shy but I'll post them up. No Instagram models here, just real grit. Ha.

Please keep us in the loop.

We all know vehicles are not an investment. But it's fun to know how the dealer thinks.

I would also guess it will be a low offer unless they are planning to charge you full MSRP with add-ons for whatever you would be buying in which case they could tack 5-6k onto your trade depending on what you might be interested in and not get hurt.

Why? Because the dealer knows highly modded vehicles are usually a headache in the making. They would likely ship it off to a wholesale auction to distance themselves from it.

Agreed. This is really the only reason I'm entertaining it. I haven't seen anything for sale local sub 15k that wasn't 400k miles, cobbled together, or flat out burned to the ground. Seriously, there was a RegCab LongBed with 300k miles for 8k that had been stolen, smashed in to stuff, and partially lit on fire.

I'm prolly a horrible person, but I'm curious what they say. They had a '14 with 120k miles on the lot for 35k last month.

Well, since it’s a Whipple they’ll probably offer you 10k. Now if you had a Harrop, easily 100k. :p

Isn't the 1st rule you talk new vehicle price first THEN trade in?

Believe it or not, they haven’t given me a number yet. I did get to drive around in a 2024 Platinum for a bit. I do have to say, there’s a lot I like about the new tundra - and some things I don’t. Not enough to trade in my truck, though. Perhaps they looked at the list of mods and decided not to even make an offer. I figured they were trying to work all the numbers so as to entice me to buy a new one. They have some 17 or so new tundras on the lot. Most are Platinum, 2 capstones, a 1794, 2 SR5’s, and a base. Of course, the bed and cab configuration I need is available in a Platinum and 1794.

Per the original post, I don’t intend on buying a new vehicle or letting them buy my vehicle. The dealership initiated the inquiry because my truck was schedule for service and I figured I’d see what they valued the truck at. The tundra market here has been absurd but is cooling.

Let them appraise it. They probably don’t even know what it looks like. They are probably just working off basic info(year/make/model).
This is a very common tactic. I had it happen with my Subaru in Oct. I said sure the car is in service call me with a number. They called back with $1k under KBB private party.

What they didn’t know is I had just submitted pictures for trade in on my Model Y Performance the day before.

Dealership gave me $4k more than Tesla offered me. It was $1k less than what I wanted. But it was there, I had their loaner, and my Y was being delivered in 2 days. Easy choice. I took the small hit and didn’t buy anything from them.

These are not always “bad” deals. Their Toyota store wants the wife’s 4Runner. We can’t take it in there without them trying. Probably won’t take them up on it ever.
