Squirrels got me

Out of nowhere my dash lit up and since I’ve had no automatic braking or cruise control. Not being able to permanently cancel the warning message is probably the most annoying part. I ordered the ark splashguards to make it a little harder for them to get under the bed.

Hopefully it is just the vent line because I’ve seen the little bastards under there multiple times.

 

I had a squirrel climb up under my BMW front end and get fried in the alternator years ago. Took a bit to figure it out. After the 3rd battery in as many days I had a friend help me dive in under the hood and we found him.

Interesting point, but I thought that was for a fuel line feeding the engine not the tank vent line.

 

I've been using these with success in my vehicles that get parked for long periods. I usually throw a few in the engine compartment and a few on the floorboards inside.

They seem to last a long time, and are more effective than other common methods.

 

They got my knock sensor harness for $3k. Comprehensive Insurance paid for it.
I now keep some Uncle Gus' Mouse Deterrent and dryer sheets in the engine bay and have a sonic emitter on order.

 

Look a that, dinner crawled right in there and cooked itself for you. I call that a win!

 

Dude, that must have been quite the "squirrely" situation.

 

Just got nailed by mice in my '22 Tundra. Apparently chewed the wires in my engine, causing every light and warning bell to go off when I started it. In a vehicle with under 20k miles, I'm looking at a repair of over $3k. All due to one night. I drive the vehicle every day and it worked fine two days ago, but yesterday was the nightmare. Had to have it towed to the dealer.

I think this is because Toyota knowingly is using wires wrapped in a soy insulation. They've been sued for it before, but I think it's more prevalent now. Anyone else with this experience???

 

During our last camping trip, we had a squirrel jump up on the front tire and disappear into the engine compartment. I went around to open the door and little bugger sitting on the other front tire.

I popped the hood and there he was shredding the hood insulation. I shoed him away. Then we did a little reading and apparently they don't like apple cider vinegar so we got some and placed a few trays of this in and around the engine. On the last day, I went to remove the trays and a few minutes later, there he was again shredding more of the insulation. I opened the hood and he flew out of there like he was on fire. It was weird that the shreds were just left on the ground like he didn't want them. Good thing that's all that happened.

I am not too sure how to prevent this from happening. I think I will soak what's left of the insulation with more vinegar and spray some around the truck.

 

My car is in the shop now because of those squirrels. I left my truck in the driveway for 1 week. My toyota care agent did say its soy based wire wrappings and its tasty to rodents. Ive heard horror stories about rodents as they will always return once they have "the taste". I asked my toyota agent about repellent and he recommended "Gunk" engine dressing or protectant. I am gonna use it and hope for the best. If not I gotta figure out a way to get those boogers away

 

Squirrels have chewed my wife’s van wires under the hood (Sienna). We now keep peppermint scented packages and an ultrasonic noise emitter in our vehicles. Also spray every couple of weeks a diluted peppermint oil/water mixture around the wheel wells. Hate those rodents
