Hello My Tundra Brothers! Help me please....

My 2013 Crewmax is having a starting problems. When cold it takes longer to start than it should, engine cranks, but no start, it eventually starts, but struggles. While running errands it will start with no problem, I'm assuming because its either warm, or there is pressure in the line. Acceleration is fine, driving around town is fine, usual touchy throttle stuff, but everything seems normal.

Is your truck a flex fuel vehicle? If so, it likely needs the ethanol percentage recalculated to correct the hard start in cold. I’ve had the same issue - the computer can be reset using Techstream.

    Hello,

Thanks. I just put in my Vin# and it says my truck is a flex fuel. Where do I find Techstream?

    Thanks
    Robert

Sounds like the really common issue with the flex fuels vehicles - lots of info here on checking and resetting alcohol density

Check out this thread. I got the scanner mentioned by the OP in this thread. Ordered it from the website. Cheaper than Amazon right now. Another person found it cheaper at Wal-Mart. Sure any bidirectional scanner will work. My knowledge of scanners is limited so I went with what I knew would would. Sure there are a lot of other cheap bidirectional scanners that will do what the one I bought will do.

Toyota's fix for this design and execution issue with the FFV Tundras is to charge you for fuel pump replacement and reprogramming of the computer ($1000 or so). Problem is the fuel pump change and reprogramming doesn't seem to cure everyone's problem permanently. Resetting the alcohol density with the bidirectional scanner ($450 or so) seems to fix the problem immediately for most. It also allows the owner to repeat the reset of alcohol density for themselves and others at any point in the future. The scanner is also handy as a very comprehensive diagnostic, adjustment, and reset tool for many of the ECU functions for any OBD2 equipped vehicle. I think if people here banded together and "borrowed" a users scan tool via sharing by shipping it around to users here in need for $50 a pop or so it would solve a lot of these FFV problems, be a cheap solution, and recoup the initial investment by someone that had to buy the tool. Just a thought.

I have been resetting mine regularly with tech stream - sometime only get 3-4K miles before the density is back up to 80-90%

Have had the same issue on my 13 with fuel pump failures. Factory one started long cranks eventually would start until it would not, replaced with aftermarket eventually the same exact issue, back to factory and no issues over 1 year since installed by stealer ship. No dash lights or codes thrown on my scanner during these occurrences.
