Hi all. My name is Shannon and I just recently purchased a 2012 Toyota Tundra Crew Max 4wd. I had been driving a 1999 4-runner for the last twenty years and just recently, the frame gave way and rusted in two. With that, I knew I wanted a Toyota and I knew it had to be a Tundra.

I'm hoping you guys can chime in and let me know what issues the 2012 (gen 2 I believe??) may have. It has 153k miles and seems to be a real solid truck. Anything you vet Tundra owners know about that I should be aware of with this gen?

Thanks in advanve for your responses. Looking forward to nerding out with some of the Tundra faithful.

Congrats on 2nd gen really the best gen
Secondary Air Injection System (SAIS) it's a emissions deal that will eventually fail especially if you live in a wet and or humid area
It can be bypassed for a couple hundred+ vs 1500-3k to repair/replace

The used truck market is TOUGH right now. I live in KY but found this truck in GA. Made the road trip with my son and brought it home. I just hope it's 1/2 the vehicle my 4Runner was!! Thanks for all the kinds words and welcomes!!

Welcome, and congrats on the nice-looking truck! Other than what other folks have mentioned, you can search "cam tower leak" on this site or Google to get some more info on that. It's not uncommon, but at this age and mileage it's really just something to keep an eye on and not necessarily worry about. If you do have the leak and it's not dripping onto the floor or you're not noticing any loss between oil changes I wouldn't worry about it and just take a look every oil change or so. Really though, just enjoy the truck!
