I'm hoping that I don't end up in the engine failure/replacement category but I just got the word from the dealership that my TRD Pro is showing engine misfire codes and they'll have to get Toyota corporate involved...

On Tuesday, 1/2/24 with 1,614 miles on the clock, my check engine light came on. With it, the vehicle stability control turned off along with a message saying the secondary collision break system had a malfunction. I wasn't able to get an appointment until today (1/4/24) but the check engine lights and messages stopped showing up last night. Then the "Engine misfire codes" diagnosis today.

I'll post updates when I get them just in case someone else has similar issues in the future!

Feeling for you with your brand new TRD Pro. In your place I would request a brand new vehicle. Engine misfire at 1,614 is simply, absolutely unacceptable, also a major safety issue with vehicle stability. Lemon law may apply, if not I would lawyer up as needed. So sorry this is happening to you, however you should feel empowered to get what you want out of this.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worse. Let’s hope it’s something simple and an easy fix! Could be something like a bad coil. Let us know what they find.

Funny story, I got an ol corvette that had been sitting since the 90s up and running for the in laws. Not only did the mice make hotels in there but 4-5 of them shot out of the exhaust when I got her running. They love eating cars. The mil chose to hide the fact she cleaned out the snake skin from the floor board before I started working on it.

Yeah. Seems like it could be something simple like a bad coil or wiring harness. Don't let the forum get you riled up until you hear for certain what the issue is. Our little echo chamber of a forum tends to have that effect on new folks. :)

I don't recall anyone who has had an engine failure state they had a misfire code first. I could be wrong though. Seems like when the engines go...they just grenade themselves. Boom. Won't start at all or, if it does, it sounds like a bunch of marbles in the cylinders. If it runs and it's just a misfire, then that's usually a much simpler issue to solve.

We also haven't seen a MY24 engine go yet or any engine fail this early, have we? That's a Q for @ryanwgregg.

The brake/collision warning isn't as big of a deal (to me) because of how the computer seems to be programmed to react to other issues. It seems like any issue with the powertrain or electronics will trigger that DTC. When my head unit would need resetting (early on before the 1st firmware update), it would always trigger that DTC as well. Freaked me out at first.

Interested to see what shakes out. Keep us informed!

Thanks. Turbos. Check. No known short block replacements though, it sounds like?

seems like that is a super common mileage number for these.

Sorry to hear this on your brand new Pro. Hopefully it’s minor. I hate hearing all these stories about the new Tundras. Feels like Toyota is entering the realm of “the big three” with issues. Dealing with minor things are a pain to. I think many of us on here buy Toyota for the dependability/reliability factor that Toyota is known for. These new Tundra’s are a crap-shoot. You just don’t know if your gonna get a good one or not- kinda like the other brands. Sad.

The evening update from my service rep is that it's an issue with one of the direct injectors in either cylinder 2 or 4. They will be tearing in to it more this evening and tomorrow morning and I should know more then.

Entering year #3 for me. 11/21 build (at least according to the door jam). Took delivery on 12/15/21. Just got back from a 1200 mile roadtrip to Yosemite.

I get that. There are definitely more good ones out there than ones with issues. Just feels like the pendulum is swinging slightly more away from reliability/dependability with this new platform.

Wasn’t trying to say one is better than the other. Just stating my opinion based on my observations. I hope they can get the gen3 up to their reliability standards across the board so that people can feel confident paying 75k-80k !! for a Toyota and not have to take it back for a check engine light with less than 2000 miles on the clock. That is not Toyotas reputation. I’d feel the same way if this was a 2.5 gen or whatever you wanna call it.

The dealer gave me a rental car today! lol. The direct injector in cylinder 2 has to be replaced. They said it was leaking fuel into the cylinder. The part will apparently take about a week to be delivered but at least was in stock. that’s all it needs!

I'd ask for compression and leakdown tests. That injector could've washed the cylinder walls and messed up the rings.

A collective sigh of disappointment from the GEN 2 crowd that it wasn't an engine failure..

I'd ask for them to "check the compression" in that cylinder. They can do that in 5 mins. It should be part of the repair, imo.

Is there anymore information on the MY24 engine? As for the MY24 turbos, we’re just flukes, or still from the batch of bad turbos?
