I'm not poking fun I'm amazed it held up. I think 4firemandan's build was pushing E85 too with numbers just south of 600s.

I followed Dan's build minus the e85.

How were you running the 2.0” pulley and getting 16 psi? Also running larger crank pulley?

 

Just the 2.0 at sea level.

 

RCF TB also adds a bit of boost, not sure how much though.

 

When I added the RCF I saw about 1.2psi more. With the 2.2 pulley and overdrive crank pulley I'm at 12.5 psi and I haven't done a full on wot pull. Waiting for the shifting to settle out.

 

@Speedkills119 out of curiosity, do you know which cylinders had failures?

 

Looks like 5 and 6

Pistons 1&2 would be between mains 1 and 2, Pistons 3&4 between mains 2 and 3, Pistons 5&6 between mains3 and 4, Pistons 7&8 between mains 4 and 5

 

I didn't even see the numbers on the mains! Good catch. Wonder if there's any correlation between the talk of 5 failing and the failure here.

What was the cause? Rod failure?

 

I’ve gone over it so many times in my head and reviewing the tear down. I think it was the torque when the converter locked up and folded the rods. The pistons looked great, the rings were free and had plenty of tension left in them. The bearings were all clean with no signs of heat. The only other thing it could be, it pulled a wrist pin out of the piston. I found one of the pins that was split. Lengthwise… and one of the pistons was split in half.

 

That's wild, and gives me great pride that a little chunk of metal from Utah helped enable that level of power and destruction
