I helped the dealer unload and mount one on a turd gen, they seem super nice but I don’t exactly get how the sleeping platform works, do you get up into it from the bed or with a ladder outside?

You can do either or. I climbed up from inside the bed. He had an overhead panel that popped out of the way, hop up then plop the price back in to lay down. There’s also options for side windows, in that case you could enter through one of those with a ladder from outside
That’s a cool option but I think the pop top is the best part for me. Easy camp setup when out road tripping with my gf

Another benefit of the highrise cap, Polo & i can hop in/out without inverting the back window. & it drips past the tailgate. I can also slide in with the tailgate closed without being a gymnast.

also hanging things from the latch levers.

Hey I have a soft top on my tundra too. Can I ask you a question, how do you seal the front flap of it? I kind of have mine loosed tucked between the bed and cab, curious what you do

Oh awesome that's a good idea. Was the front wall of the bed that you drilled into hollow or solid on the inside? Curious how much metal there is to make some thread for the screws on the inside.

I would go with something like this, mostly because I already have the tools/materials. A rivet will hold in thin sheet metal way better than any screw.
    Snap Fastener
    Rivet die

The Press-n-Snap tool is the tits too. Totally unnecessary for just a few fasteners though.

Run over to Texas and I'll get you fixed up in 1/2 an hour.

Softopper sells the screw in snaps on their website. Super easy to install. Drill a pilot hole and screw em in 3x. I assume they come with a new softopper, ut I bought mine used. The first year or so I didn't have the front snaps on my bed and the front flap would cave in from the wind on the highway. It wasn't an issue unless it rained. So I finally bought the screw in snaps from the website. Super cheap too.

Nope, it's just a Leer model number. 100R, 100XR, etc.

100R is their standard height camper, and with our trucks, it has a nice overhang rail that conceals the bedrails and helps totally avoid leaks, as long as you double-bulb the cab side of the shell, making it a no-brainer generally waterproof install: https://www.leer.com/100r-truck-cap?cclcl=en_US

Nice looking ARE for access cab, same color as my Leer, $650 just north of Atlanta. Shape looks weird to me, but whatever.

Gold Ranch brand AC shell in great shape, Anderson SC, $700 is priced too high, but it looks like it's in breat shape. I don't like the way it sits on the rail caps for this brand:

I love how it curves the rear window. But you’re right, it looks almost like it’s 1 inch too short and 2 inches too narrow.

This is more for informational purposes than anything else. Leer sometimes includes a serial plate with the model number on newer releases. I've seen it more often in the 100XR and XL series, but sometimes other models too, if they're recent. Anyway, I was trying to decipher a month or three ago, what the hell the codes were, and I finally found a PDF with the model numbers in it, see the "Model ID" column here.

    upload_2023-12-27_19-49-4.png
The cross-reference, basically if you have one of the taller serial plates inside, that part number will be in this spot - this picture is taken from a 100 XL Leer shell for a 6'4" bed Tacoma (TC) Double Cab (DC), i.e. [100XL 64TCDC].

Who has bolted their shell directly to the rails?

thinking about it, and maybe adding some angle iron betwixt to make a rack to hold a canopy, so i dont have to drill the cap.

@RUSTYNUTS is yours bolten on? Got pics of the bottom side of the rail?

I had my ARE through bolted. So I have holes in the rails. But the leer uses clamps. I’d like to drill the leer but haven’t yet.

Yeah I thru-bolted mine. I was using the 'J' bolts that hook under the bedrail lip. One day while romping up the side of a mountain, I was notified by another in our group, that I needed to stop and look at my shell. All the bolts had popped off the bedrail and the top had slid back about a foot and a half. It for sure woulda tumbled down the hill if it weren't for a single welding clamp I had on it as a safety. Slid it back in place, strapped it down tight and thru-bolted it the next day.
What exactly do you want pics of? I just drilled straight thru the shell and truck bedrail. Clamped together first of course

What kinda drill, @RUSTYNUTS ? The only way I can see doing it with a regular drill is if I mark first and rotate the shell 90 degrees for access.

You can use an angle drill, a 90 degree angle adapter on a straight drill, or drill up from the bottom, which is what I think I did. Just make sure to clamp it on either side first
