Good morning and Merry Christmas to all. I have owned a Tacoma for many years, I used to work at the factory in Fremont CA and purchased my first one in 2000. I'm comfortable towing a trailer, my wife and I took our Taco and travel trailer from CA to Alaska and back last year, but we wanted to upgrade to a 5th wheel so we purchased a new Tundra this year. Any suggestions as to what will be different towing a 5th wheel instead of the TT? I know that backing up will have a learning curve, but what about towing on the open highway? I see people towing their 5th wheel driving like a bat out of hell. What, if any, is a safe maximum speed for towing our new trailer? Thanks, and Happy Holiday's.

You will love towing a 5th wheel with a Tundra.

Expect to get beat up by peeps that can't except the tundra tows 10k 5th wheel rvs just fine.

I travel to and from the Carolinas every year with mine.

You are not going to miss screwing with load equalizing hitches.

I did install air bags. I like them very much.

I took do not understand driving " like a bat out of hell", either.

Yes, the towing experience is a much more sure feeling, but not going 80+. That's just stupid.

Trailer tires are only rated for 65 mph.

Watch gas station overhangs. Most 5ers are taller than a bumper pull.

I hope you got a Tundra with the 38 gallon tank. My present rig does not.

I get 9.6 mpg traveling 60-65, but fuel ups still seem close together.

I lock the transmission in 4th. The truck is not struggling to maintain those speeds. The engine runs just fine at 3k rpms.

Thanks for the tips. I have the bigger fuel tank as well as the factory load leveling. We are looking forward to many more memories in the new truck.

    I didn't realize you were in a 3rd gen.

Please update the thread with the hitch install. I'm curious if the composite bed will be an issue. It most likely won't, but still want to see a nice clean install.

Haven't got the hitch installed, or even purchased yet. Health issues with family members at this time so we're staying local for a while. We'll probably get the hitch and pick up the trailer in the spring. I'll update the thread as we get things installed.
