So you all know my lottery story already :) Brand new old 2021 with 108 miles on it. I am about 2500 miles now after few camping trips around Texas, and for some stupid reason I have $8K burning in my pocket for a supercharger. Is paid off, who cares, so am I crazy? Money is not my concern so scratch that. But what are the implications?

    - Warranty? - I have 10 years / 125K Toyota factory extended warranty. Would that be void if I put a supercharger on it?
    - Maintenance? - Do I need to do more, less, same?
    - Reliability? - Is this still going to be a rock solid tank v8 engine or I am putting some stress on it? This is my daily, and very little towing.
    - Pro / Cons? - Anything else I should consider?
    - Ultimately, what you guys think? do it, don't do it?
    - If do it, any specific kit or install shop? I am in Houston Texas but I don't mind driving for best install experience. I really need best install kit and shop. For instance 25 years ago I did a Dinan dual turbo on my V12 BMW and had to drive this sucker all the way to California, but it was the perfect turbo kit and install job.

I appreciate the guidance and be blunt need be, I can take it :)

    1) I don’t think Toyota installs them any longer unless TRD (I may be wrong) so warranty is gone.

    2) More parts will wear faster. These is some maintenance on a SC.

    3) My SC went after around 3k miles.

    4) @nobodyintexas can provide more input, and for TX installs

2019 trd pro here, just turned 24,000 miles, blower has been on for about 16,000 of those miles there is absolutely 0 issues with anything I am hardly in boost most of the time have a banks pedal monster wich makes things a little more fun and I added a genuine cooling systems trans cooler 15 row ... def a must in my opinion ! Other then that just enjoy the 550 horse and torque that is brings and do your normal maintenance

Get to reading in the supercharger thread. All of your questions and more have been answered several times I would say. If you’re considering dropping 10k on it, it’s worth taking the time to read through this whole thread on your free time even if it takes a week or two. There’s a lot of fluff in there unfortunately, as people don’t always stay on topic. Overall it’s pretty information rich, and a lot of answers have been added to even just the first post. It’s worth the read.

Whatever this forum told me to do
I had peitz performance, just west of Katy, install my harrop

he does a lot of boosted cars, so he’s busy. I paid extra for his guys to come in on the weekend to install mine, that was my choice and the guys appreciated it.

and he doesn’t try to sell you like prospeed

he uses HP tuners to tune & has his own dyno

mine has been flawless for ~75k miles. It’s my daily driver

    Just do it

you life experience will increase 10fold

and you will live an additional 5yrs because you will be so happy.

just keep in mind, I’m just an end user, and can only speak to such areas

the mongrels on the supercharger thread are there for the technicals

I will now belabor the topic.

when you get your Harrop <- see what I did there?

it will come with the 85mm pulley - 7-ish psi it's nice

go ahead and order the 80mm - 8.5ish psi it's much better

    and order the 77.5mm too....because. it's nasty.

    No you are not crazy.

Warranty - Toyota will likely decline any warranty work where they could claim is directly related to the blower (Well aware of Magnuson-Moss). If anything they can make it difficult to get warranty work.
Sparks Toyota used to do installs, they may be able to allow you to keep your warranty but it would only apply to the Maggie TVS 1900. If you go with a big Maggie, Whipple or Harrop the only warranty is the 3 year/36K warranty via Maggie, or the short 1 year/13K warranty the others offer.
Maintenance - Blower oil change is usually 100K miles. Everything else is the same but it is generally recommended to get more frequent engine oil changes; 3K is optimal, 5K is min.
Reliability - Tundra overbuilds their trucks as long as you get a good tune and don't go crazy with boost you'll be fine. Several 200+K S/C engines around. There was a post where a guy chipped a piston after 100K and the engine looked great after a tear-down inspection.
Pro- Flat torque and noticeable responsiveness. Tows/Hauls like a champ.
Con- You'll have to run on more expensive 93( or E85 in some cases) and MPGs will likely be lower than stock.

I say full send. Definitely go for it.

An ASE mechanic install and remote tune can also work but I think @nobodyintexas has the goods on tuner/installers for Houston.

Listen to the responses from Saltyhero13, Silver17, Nobodyintexas they are to blame why I did mine....if I haven't said it thank you all and after the install snafu it's been great. I truly believed it will go 200k with proper maintenance

Something to keep in mind also is some of the early boosted trucks didn't fare well due to limited tuning capabilities and poor understanding of the weak points in the engine. I don't think this is the case anymore.

With that said a supercharger wont improve reliability but if you keep your boost levels reasonable you will have a long lasting truck you can enjoy.

Get boost hungry chasing big numbers without the correct supporting mods and you'll likely destroy your engine.

Get a proper install and a good tune and you'll be good to go.

Whatever this forum told me to do
one of you smarter folks needs to make a list of what to request of the tuner

    like:
    Low 10s afr under boost
    Adequate fuel pressure
    Correct spark plugs
    Transmission tune
Roll in PE at the right boost level

    etc

Best decision you will make. Do it, there is no longer any reason, aside from cash flow, to not do this. Just be aware, once you boost your truck, you'll never own another truck that isn't boosted. It's an amazing realization! Mpg isn't as affected as much as your logical brain wants to argue...I have breached 20mpg hand calc'd and just recently 11mpg average on a 2600 mile trip towing another truck on a uhaul trailer. Make that money make you smile!

Harrop at stage 1. 40,000 miles. At my age I am not aggressive enough to do stage 2. I tow a lot and wouldn't be without that extra kick on the PA turnpike back and forth from our cabin in central PA. Gets you outta s**t as fast as you can get into s**t. I did add catch cans about 20,000 miles ago at the recommendation of a local performance shop even though Harrop says they aren't needed. I had some blow by early on the SC life that pushed the catch can decision. I'm in the SC thread early on back in 2019.

I do not regret it. And, yes, Toyota dealers will be the first to tell you....your truck has been modified and any warranty fight begins with that statement. My last fight with Toyota was about the trade in price for my EcoS**t F150. They offered me the super deluxe extended warranty for a minimum as an olive branch. I put the warranty in my rear view mirror when I got sucked into the SC forum. I figured it's a V8 Tundra, what could go wrong? lol

Isn’t a 24 TRD Pro a 70k + truck these days? Even with the TRD upgrade you’re looking at 470hp not 570. A JB4 might get you 100hp over stock on a 3rd gen, 530 maybe? A 5.7 with a blower, smaller pulley, and injectors is in the 620+ crank hp range, but is also a lot quicker based on the dragy runs I’ve seen. Quickest 3rd gen I’ve seen with a dragy is a hybrid with a JB4 on one of the higher boost maps and it was around a whole second slower to 60 than most of our supercharged trucks.
