Anybody else here do SxS trail ridding? When I say ridding I don't mean stopping every 2 miles to drink beer for an hour while listening to country rap. I've got a couple of buddies and we hit different parts of the Ozark National Forest trails about once a month for 30-60 miles depending. We rip shit through the mountains but don't get stupid just on the edge of it. Here's a picture of my Talon on 30" Nitto Trail Grapplers, my two main ride or die buddies run Kawasaki KRX on 32".

A lot of awesomeness with your rig unseen by the naked unknowing eye! I'm in a wooded hill area of the country but tame compared to some of the trails in the Tennessee area, you guys out west are wide open with hills and real mountains. One of my riding buddies moved to here from the San Diego area and has tons of stories of riding that area and down into Mexico. He runs an X3 turbo and is a member of the Knuckles Up group from out there if you've heard of them.20231223_225903.jpg

I haven't quite convinced the wife yet on buying one, but we occasionally rent when we're in a good area.

Actually I've got her pretty much sold on the idea, she drove the shit outta' the second half of our recent Hell's Revenge guided tour in April and LOVED it! I was simultaneously terrified and so proud.
My problem is that getting a SXS would require getting rid of our current travel trailer that we love and has had ZERO problems in 7 years, and replacing it with a toyhauler would be WAY over payload on the Tundra I just got a year ago. I'll go a little over now and then if I'm honest, but I don't wanna' be ridiculously overloaded every time I go camping.

I used to ride Glamis sand dunes a lot, but that was on an ATC 350X. Finally decided ripping a 3 Wheeler around Glamis in my 50's might be pushing my luck.
Drove a friends Rhino 660 some, but you really had to pick your lines due to being pretty underpowered in the dunes. I'd love to see what the turbo Can Am we rented in Sedona would do in the dunes.

FYI, the KRX we drove in Moab was a pretty freaking amazing crawler. They had super sticky's on 'em (34's?) and they walked up everything I pointed it at surprisingly easy.

The KRX is an absolute crawler. Like I mentioned my two main ridding buddies run them and I've named one "Big Booty Judy" and the other "Big Belly Kelly". My Nittos are a sticky and yes sticky tires do what they are named for, it makes a huge difference when the terrain calls for it. They call my Talon "Spider Monkey" because it's smaller but crawls everything that they do.

Yup. The only downside of Texas is lack of public land to drive on. But plenty of parks to ride in. Gotta admit, way better than wheeling a pickup truck or suv.

Yeah, I was super impressed. I've done a little wheelin' but really not that much actual rock crawling. I think I pick fairly decent lines and I instinctively understand a little about throttle control, when gas it and when to just bump an obstacle, etc. but as far as seat time, knowing where the limits are for off camber stuff, real crawly stuff I'm an absolute noob.

Even though I'm fully aware and amazed what can be done with a capable rock crawler (I've watched a lot of YouTube vids) I'm not gonna' lie.... we rolled up on some stuff where I was like "Holy Shit, we're goin' up THAT?!" Some 'cuz it was ledgy and technical, and some 'cuz it was just fuckin' big!

Knowing the machine was capable, the guide was on the radio offering tips on approach lines, etc, gave me confidence that it'd make it, but I was expecting wheelspin and maybe having to try a couple different lines...

Brrrrpp... That Kawi went up like my Tundra going over a speed bump in the Home Depot parking lot.

These vids are wifey driving, having driven a SXS ONCE on some trails in Sedona, but absolutely no rock crawling experience. The two rigs in front of us, one was two girls and one a young couple on their honeymoon, none of them had ever even driven a SXS and they freaking KILLED IT!

If you're ever in Moab and wanna' do some crawling without scratchin' up your Tundra, this outfit was top notch, I chose one of the more biginner tours btw, apparently they will take you up some legit shit!

Oh, and if you don't wanna' drive... They have this.
