Thank you for sharing that experience. That certainly does ease my mind a bit about small spots of oil accumulation. I know I've probably been extra nit picky on the trucks I've checked out so far, but spending $40k+ on a truck outside of warranty just has me a little extra "on-guard".

I'll keep updating this thread with my search results. Hopefully some pics of a new bad-to-the-bone Tundra will be coming soon

I get it... it's hard to drop that kinda money on a rig w/o concerning yourself on every detail and trying your best to mitigate risk.

If I were purchasing a gently used gen 2.5, I'd do my best to find the features/trim level I was after, and then try to find one that has solid service/maintenance records showing oil changes every 5k and other maintenance done on time; and I'd give it bonus points if there was evidence it was owned by a meticulous person that would've followed proper break-in and such. These trucks have a lot of room for error in how they are treated, but these things would give me the greatest peace of mind.

Also, I'd check for frame rust and such (minor surface rust I wouldn't worry about) regardless of where you're purchasing out. Crawl under and take a good luck. I would be suspicious of an undercarriage that has been recently sprayed (paint, fluid film, etc.). There's been a few folks that have popped up on the forum while shopping around and talked about finding trucks in non-rust areas w/frames that were suspiciously clean and freshly painted over that ended up w/some decent rust. They were rigs that were a bit older, but the past couple of winters we've had it would be easy for a newer truck to be exposed to some pretty extreme conditions.

Sound advice. The one I'm going to see tomorrow checks all my desired boxes (Platinum Crewmax 4WD), has service records demonstrating 5k oil changes and has always lived in Vegas, so shouldn't be rusty (but I'll obviously check everything very thoroughly).

No sir, that was deleted in 2020. So no changes between 2020 and 2021.

2020 is the year of the greatest Toyota Tundra ever produced. Don't listen to all these people that don't have a 2020, an therefore, have no clue what they are talking about. :burp:

EDIT: except for the white ones, those suck just like all the other years, and are extremely slow. You will thank me later for this advice.

At least we had a cooler in 2018. Granted, your truck could end up looking like this.

    Actually 2019.

I discovered this shortly AFTER purchasing my 2019. I haven't added one, gonna' get an OBD to monitor and decide whether to spend the money to add a cooler or just do periodic drain/fills.

No hate! Simply facts, the white trucks are the slowest models Toyota makes.

So good news. I found the perfect truck, and it was exactly what I was looking for. Behold my new 2018 Tundra Crewmax Platinum 4WD with 67k miles and in the best color, white.

Nice! I actually like the black camper shell on the white truck. Kind of disappears when you look at it, retaining the classic pickup truck silhouette.

Thank you! I have always bad mouthed camper shells, and originally thought I'd take it off of this truck, but I must admit it's growing on me and might end up keeping it on there.
