Hello all- I need suggestions on step bars/sliders that will let me comfortably access the roof rack that's on my camper shell for my 2016 Tunda crewmax. I currently have a set of Iron Cross steps from the previous owner, but I can't reach the front cross bar without opening my backdoor and standing on my seats.

Added a pic to show the steps and the roof rack.

    Thanks in advance!

Need sliders? Or just regular stepbars? They are very different with very different price tags.

I have Amp steps but they suck for roof access.

I either open the rear doors and stand on the sill or hump it up onto a rear tire. This is how I tie down our kayaks and SUPs.

Or, I open tailgate and close the topper door so I can get up at the rear end.

How tall is that? I can access the roof standing on my sliders but not sure how tall your setup is. These are Westscott designs.

IMG_1245_Original.jpgI have the CBI slider steps. They allow me to get in and out of the side windows of my shell and then to the roof to tie stuff up.

OP if you need to stand on the seats to reach then no step can help you as they only can go to the bottom of the doors, for obvious reasons. How tall are you?

That's how I currently do it, but I don't want to tear up my leather seats.

I do close the hatch and open the tailgate, best way to access the rack at the back of the truck.

It's awkward, the rack isn't close to the door or the wheels, and I have no leverage outside the rig. My height isn't an issue, it's the fact that I have to be inside the truck but be bent awkwardly outside and behind the cab to reach the crossrack. My steps are useless for this because they're set below the door and have a small footprint. I'm hoping for a solution that extends to the back of the cab outside of it so I can be positioned better.

I'm on 35s with like a 2 inch lift I think, the PO installed the lift and the tires so I'm not sure how much. I like the look of those!

What about the side of bed amp steps? Way cheaper than sliders

Going back all the way makes all the deference, allows me to reach far in the bed. Love these slider steps!

What about something like this that can be clipped to either door and either side of the truck when needed and then stowed out the way when you're done...

My guess is SnugTop, based on the fit where the canopy hangs over the side of the bed, rather than on top. Unless someone else started doing that!

yup it’s a snugtop rebel with the windoors. The side windows are the best investment - the sliders make it super easy to get in and out.

Not sure if this would help but there are several companies I've seen that make a 3rd step for bed access like what @reywcms posted his picture of. I know you said you have a shell but the 3rd step combined with the rear tire could give you a bit of height.
These are Nfab bed podium stepsc7baf405e52ccf2ce7963aa052f7d4f6.jpg

Alternatively you can get yourself a 2 or 3 step foldable ladder that you can just keep in the truck. That would be the cheapest method.

I have this ones and like them a lot. I can get my hole foot in the step with no issues.

They seem to sit a bit more flush against the cab right? Kind of like true rock sliders. Compared to the OEM rails. I would like them for that reason. Be a bit easier to slide under the truck for a bit of quick maintenance or inspection

They do. I had the OEM Predator steps and those did stick a littlw lower than the podium step.

There are the RealTruck N-Fab Textured Black Cab Length Podium Steps, which are also available in stainless steel if you're looking to match your chrome trim, and the RealTruck N-Fab Textured Black Bed Access Podium Steps. The Cab Length set has two hoop steps on each side and the Bed Access Podium steps have a third step for easy access to the bed of the truck or the rear of the cab roof. Feel free to PM me or email me if you have any specific questions about these steps. I'm happy to help!
