Bought a 24 Tundra Limited and really want to love it but sadly there are a number of things holding me back. Thought by joining this site might get some insight which will convince me it was a good purchase.

    - The adjust seat message is annoying to say the least. I think this may be fixable and have seen a few recommendations. Will try these for fix.

    - Whoever programmed the info screen should look for a new job. The radio functionality is about as un-user friendly as any I’ve had. Toyota should study other makes such as Mazda for ease of use. Right in front of arm rest are controls which allow you to change source, station, nav functions etc. My Tundra has a control which changes drive mode which I never do. This could have been moved anywhere else!! Not well thought out.
The info screen also does not have a split screen function. Almost every vehicle I’ve owned before allows for nav and radio to be displayed and in split screen. Tundra does not have or is well hidden. Is this an easy program fix? Come on Toyota!!!!

    - Speaking of arm rest. Why the hard plastic in the middle. My arm hits this and pretty uncomfortable. Plus - if you have anything in either of the trays and you open the arm rest they shoot to the back seat. Looks ok - not very comfortable or functional.

    - Tailgate. You would think a limited model in today’s world would come with a tailgate step like the Ford F-150 which I miss. I could pop this out and jump up in bed in 2 seconds. There is no step in the Tundra and there is no step in the bumper. Just don’t understand this.

I have more but will save for later. Would love input if anyone cares to comment or correct my understanding of how to use.

    Hope everyone is enjoying theirs!!

    Regards…

To be frank, I don’t think you will like the input/feedback you might get on this forum regarding your list of gripes. I’m not trying to be rude, but that list seems, well, petty and inconsequential. Most folks buy a Tundra for QDR - quality, durability, reliability - not because it has the most bells and whistles or creature comforts.

For example, I have 196k trouble free miles on my ‘13; I just replaced the first worn out parts (tie rods) besides brakes, oil, wipers, aero belt, etc. I literally have never had to leave the truck at a shop or anywhere over night other than my driveway. If that means I need to remove a few loos temps from the center console lid before opening it, that’s ok with me because that doesn’t have anything to do with the truck firing up every morning, even at -30F, driving it to my destination, and getting me home every night.

Again, I’m really not trying to be jerk by any means, I just don’t think you will get the same type of disappointment in a lack of split screen capabilities that it appears you are looking for.

    Welcome to the forum.

There are many things in life I want to LOVE, but the reality is nothing is perfect and you either except that or you move on. I come here because people who buy Toyota trucks whatever generation it may be have something in common and to learn from those shared experiences. If I can use those experiences to make my Tundra better that is a good thing. If there is something I have done or know and can share with others to benefit them that's a good thing too. Throw in a few jokes or a bit of sarcasm here and there then this place is a good place to hang out. Just be respectful so you don’t get banned.

Life is way too short to be griping.

I wish you all the best in your new ownership. Oh did I forget to say I LOVE my Tundra

You can fix the seat message for sure. Should be multiple threads on it here.

Pretty much all the infotainment complaints are fixed by using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. I rarely see/use Toyota's interface at all. I don't think I've ever used a factory system that made me think they know how to make user interfaces.

The armrest is a bit different in my Platinum, and as you can imagine little aesthetics/finishes like that get better the more you spend.

I'm surprised they haven't added a gimmick tailgate like others, but a simple bed step works well too. I use mine all the time. Kinda wish I had one on both sides.

You're lucky you don't have any of the 2022/2023 Tundra issues such as wind noise, doors rattling, delayed acceleration/lag (2024s reported it too), sudden engine failures from bad bearings, etc.

Everyone's different - I love the infotainment system, love the drive mode shifter as I used it frequently, but yes the middle console sucks... Why it's plastic in middle and everything falls out when you lift the arm rest? Because it's a stupid Toyota design... They couldn't just make it padded flat surface.

I like the above post, that we all want to LOVE something, but unfortunately it's not always the case in life.

    1. The adjust seat message will go away if you re-link your FOB to your profile.

    2. Use CarPlay or Android Auto and use voice commands to change radio stations, sources, songs, etc....works great and you don't have to take your hands off the wheel. Split screen is no problem.

    IMG_2184.jpg

    3. A higher trim package would have given you a more comfortable and functional center console.

    4. Bumper steps are for girls. Just kidding. Toyota offers them as an option for about $375

Hope this helps. I had similar frustrations when I first got my truck. Now that I've figured out how to use most of the bells and whistles, I'm enjoying it.

    Nothing yet, brand new.
Just curious, why did you purchase in the first place? This is almost comical that you made this big purchase and then get online to justify the purchase of your new luxury pickup truck! Limited trim levels run approximately $60k or more and it doesn’t seem as if you did much research at all. After reading your post and considering the unmentioned list of gripes, I’m going to express my opinion that you’d be better off trading it in on that Mazda with the user friendly radio dial! Or the ford with the big boy step! Also, the new GMC practically drives itself, you test drive those?

Split screen is the lower left icon. I find the console in my 1794 extremely well thought out. Sliding tray in front for quick access, lid on upper rear coin tray etc. I couldn't get power bed step with TRD pkg., that's my sole gripe

I was not aware voice commands could change radio station or sources....
How do I do this? It is literally the only thing I do not love about my Tundra....flipping through the screens to set radio & then back to CarPlay, etc.

This^^. I regularly bounce from different AM and FM radio stations, Apple Music radio stations, and specific songs from Apple Music using nothing but voice commands. I find it works best to lower the volume, using the steering wheel button, before making a command.

On long road trips, my wife and I enjoy taking turns picking different songs, often oldies from our younger years. Occasionally, we'll pick one that the system doesn't recognize, or Apple Music doesn't license to play, but it's very rare.

If you are listening to something through Car Play and then use the voice command to go to FM, does the screen change to the Toyota screen or remain on CP? I use Android Auto and my screen stays on AA even though I changed to an FM station using voice commands. No biggie, just curious if there's a difference between CP and AA.

It stays in CarPlay when switching to AM or FM radio, which is the way I prefer it. I've become addicted to using CarPlay and Google Maps in satellite view, so I'm glad it doesn't switch to the Toyota screen.

I completely understand. These are not really new issues. In fact, when I bought mine in 2019 I drove it for a week and realized that it didn’t have leather or a sunroof. The salesman never even told me. When I did the test drive he could have said “if you look up and check the ceiling, you’ll notice that it has one.” My test drive was 20 minutes and they never said even once that it had cloth seats.

When leading up to my purchase, I'd say I was a bit concerned about all of the "issues" that folks were posting about. Then I watched LLOD's video when he bought his and basically confirmed all of my suspicions...these complaints are superfluous and, as others have said here, not reasons to not love your truck. Had mine for a little over a hear now and have loved every moment of it (except when those dang squirrels chewed up a few wires in the engine bay).

You'll enjoy it, don't sweat the small things. And just use apple car play...its 2023
