2018 Platinum Windshield Washer Hose Problem

Hi,

I am the original owner of a 2018 Platinum Tundra.

This morning I noticed liquid on the ground under the front of my truck.

It looked like it was leaking around the windshield washer pump, so I got a replacement and replaced it.

Unfortunately, I then discovered that the hose from the pump had several quite significant holes in it (see photos). These seem quite strange in a truck so new. So I replaced most of the hose where the obvious holes were (almost to where hose goes through a barrier by the back side of engine compartment.

Tried it out, and it is leaking there as well. I then noticed that this area had been taped up with electrical tape where the hose goes through that barrier. This also seems strange. (See pictures). This area is now where it is leaking.

Other than normal oil service, I have had no repair work done. I keep it in a locked garage and it is relatively low mileage (63K).

Has anyone experienced something similar?

It seems almost intentional….

How hard will it be to remove the covers (where windshield meets the wiper mechanism) and replace the entire hose?

Those holes are from rodents chomping on your hose. Its not hard to remove the plastic cowl to get to the hose, all you do is remove the wipers and depress some clips on the underside. Good luck.

 

Hmmm…. Black tape doesn’t magically appear. You didn’t add that?

 

I didn’t add the electrical tape. But the rodent bites may make sense, and I didn’t think of that. I’ll put out some traps.

 

Where I live in Benson Arizona ( about 50 miles southeast of Tucson ) you see lots of trucks with a light under the motor at night.

I had the pack rats bite through my washer hose in four places. I now park it in the garage and keep the lights on all the time.
