The BZ4x looks like a real stinker too! Funny since it is just being released and has 10% of the moving parts.

    Who is generating these charts?

Sorry, it may be CR which I don't usually agree with. The 4runner owners are happy and worried the 6th gen 4runner will have growing issues like the 3rd gen tundra.

@Utahcamper did they give any details as to why so low? Sample size?

CR docks scores for such things as "infotainment" and "climate sustainability". Curious to know if they have any meaningful knocks against the truck.

No, it's on the 5th Gen 4runner forum. The title is "why does CR hate the 4runner".

It seems like Toyota owners are more resistant to change than any other brand. I'm sure the Gen 2 tundra guys bitched about power windows, fuel injection, ABS and maybe seat belts would kill you too.
The old "loyal" guard wants to keep making the legacy stuff even though it's badly out of date. The Tacoma/Forerunner platform is in serious need of improvement.

I bet it is "Based on reliability expectations from the previous generation Tundra owners". In reality, it should be at least twice more reliable on the charts. Somewhere between Prius Prime and Sienna.

You are correct, my windows are slooww. But when you have a chance, my friend told me to ask you to ask Toyota why they did away with the legacy front drivers power seat on the SR5? Or why they used the outdated 2.5 TSS when they had the 3.0 available. Like I said asking for a friend. :anonymous:

Anyone can make up a garbage chart like that without real data. It's a prediction. I predict there will be a hurricane in Wyoming. If I put it on a chart then it must be real.

Real world, my 24 Tundra has been a good truck through the first 5,000 miles. It has a couple of interior squeaks/rattles that are a bit annoying, but that's about it. The drivetrain is smooth, and it handles very well. I am very pleased with the Tundra.
Of course, the 22 F150 King Ranch I owned prior to the Tundra lowered my expectation for quality so much, I can't really say what my impressions of the Tundra would have been if I hadn't owned the F150 first. I grew to hate the F150 and lost faith in Ford as a company long before I was able to trade for the Tundra.
From my personal viewpoint, based on the data in the chart, if the Tundra is that bad, it's a reflection of the entire half-ton pickup segment, because my Tundra is a much better truck than my F150 was.

Consumer Reports hates all things “Toyota”, especially their trucks…

In my opinion they made the 4Runner and 2nd gen Taco seem like nothing more than Barney Rumble vehicles. Yes Toyota is a bit archaic in design but not as bad as CR makes them out to be.

yeah funny you are pitting a 5th gen 4runner thats been in production for longer than the 2nd gen tundra was in (15 model yrs for the tundra vs 16 model years for the 4runner when they change over next year)

vs the 3rd gen tundra thats only had 2 model years so far

That graph seems reasonable to me, based on the anecdotal, but embarrassingly large, amount of time that I spend researching cars. I also own two cars on the list.

My brother's Tundra (purchased 3 weeks ago) had to go back to the dealer the first week for a failed 02 sensor. :censored:

Always love when Consumer Reports brags about a vehicle someone owns and said person will brag about the results. Yet when CR calls your vehicle a pile of shat you cry that's its unfair. Hilarious. Maybe the fact that the absolute insane number of issues with this truck is being noticed by all and its now entering its third year and you all still defend it is embarrassing. Consumer Reports NEVER accepts a vehicle for testing, they only purchase their own. When Car & Driver or Motortrend tell you how great your truck is with a full page ad for it on the pages again you should be embarrassed. What everyone is apparently saying was CR accurately reviewed the 4Runner, Camry Hybrid, and 75% of Toyota and Lexus vehicles but had it out for the Tundra. For the third time, embarrassing.

They're probably just doing it to discourage people from buying large pickups to "save the whales", or some other silly reason.

They're going to tell us that the tundra just happens to be an anomaly? Everything else is great, and the tundra is garbage?

Even consumer reports have historically been biased against pickups and utility vehicles.

Wonder where the Ram 1500, Sierra/Silverado 1500, F150, and the Titan (yeah I forget Nissan still makes a 1/2 ton sometimes) score on the CR report? Would be curious to see how they stack up against each other. Who has a CR subscription that can tell us?

Which one has the best gas mileage of them? Not a rhetorical question, I'm really curious.

Predicted reliability is a key element in CR’s Overall Score, which is calculated by combining a vehicle’s performance in our road tests, reliability and owner satisfaction ratings drawn from CR’s exclusive Auto Surveys, the inclusion of standard safety systems, and, if available, results from government and insurance industry crash tests.

I don’t see how anyone could take CR seriously these days.
