I need to find one of these to rent.. I had 2 trees cut down Dec 22’ that I chainsawed up into 12-16” chunks (firewood length) but I still need to split all of it.. this will be second winter they’ll have to dry out.. should split like butter in the spring

I had some about 30” diameter that sat for over a year, still very wet. But 30 ton ram split em like butter.

    LIKE BUTTER!

Log splitters are absolute game changers. Like totally different worlds apart from the ol’ splitting maul. I used to hand split about 4~5 cords a summer for my parents. My buddy ended up buying a 22 ton Speeco splitter about 12 years ago. It was the best money he ever spent so that i can borrow it any time i want! I wish i had pics of this, but some time ago i called him up and asked to borrow it. He told me to “ride on down here and come grab it”...emphasis on “ride”. So i hopped on my old Vespa P200 (which i had installed a 2” ball on). So i rode down the hill and hitched up his Speeco splitter to the back of the scooter and towed it the 15 miles back to my place. I’ve done some sketchy things in the past, and this ranks way up there on my list. Towing that splitter at 50mph down the 4-lane highway had a VERY high pucker factor. As i was approaching our property, my dad was out on the tractor flailing the field. He saw what i was doing and almost fell off the tractor laughing!

That is a great idea. I may do the same. (Rent a splitter)

I've considered buying one over the last few seasons and have decided that at the cost of rental ($127/full day), it just doesn't make sense to own one. I don't need to store it and I don't need to maintain it. Plus the rental units are much more machine than I'd probably buy (they mostly rent 30 ton units). So much faster and worth every penny to borrow when needed, then send it back

I have a manual one like that from harbor freight. It works but takes forever. The cost of the rental 30T unit was well worth it. And the rental place is 4 miles away. If I lived where wood was my only heat source, I’d own one of these.

Yeah, I'll replace the bottle with the one I can automate in one or another way. 12 Chinese tons is clearly not enough to split elm logs.

This is the one I built for my dad. Legally highway towable and can be hauled up the mountain to split on site for those times he has me go up with my big trailer to fill.

Is that just a readily available log splitter that's been severely modified? It looks super sweet!

I cut an split a quick 8 cords this late summer. I managed to get it all bucked, split, stacked, and covered, and splitter returned back to my friends house a day before the rains arrived! It got a smidge bit stressful (just because of the upcoming rains) when the cush coupler (that goes between the engine shaft and the hydro pump shaft) stripped out all its toofusses. It was a whirlwind of firewooding me. Started the chainsaw up around 9am and then shut down the splitter around 5~6pm...6 days straight. Needless to say I didn’t bother going to the gym that week.

I didn’t skip from beating my 2000 Tundra, and it didn’t skip a beat either...

Now that is a work/farm truck. No one will ever accuse you of buying a truck to run to starbucks daily!

It's a 3pt log splitter that I scored really cheap. I built the trailer, added an electric start engine for the hyd pump, located the control from the cylinder to a side mount. This set up make it so my dad can run it on his own wither vertical or horizontal or so my mother can help him. I built the wings out of steel angle welded together and bolted to the splitter frame.
I used the swing away tongue to make it so it fits in storage better and also make it harder to steal. Tows very well at 65.
