    Hi all! Happy Friday!

My battery on my 2020 SR5 kicked the can yesterday and I’ve spent the last couple hours researching batteries on the forum. Looking for some recent thoughts on what the best battery for our tundra is. Worth noting.. I am soon going to be running roughly 10-12 diode dynamics SS3/SS5 light pods so looking for something that has enough juice to power all the LEDS. I shouldn’t be using them much with the truck off, but still want to ensure I have enough battery.

as of right now, looking at the X2 27F or optima Red top. Anyone have an opinion on what to buy for my use case?

thanks everyone and have a great weekend!!

The alternator powers your electrical needs while the engine is running. So, it don't matter what size 12-volt battery you get as long as it has enough amps to crank the starter. If you plan on having the lights on with the engine off, then battery size becomes more relevant.

If you buy an AGM battery, the 2 you have listed, plan on topping them off with a charger once a month.
I had an X2 and I guess it was a lemon, it died on me twice in 6 months.
Batteries Plus screwed me on the warranty and I used it for a $20 core charge swap for my Interstate MTP.
Several threads on the forum regarding AGM batteries..

I'm big on Interstate batteries myself.

What was your stock OEM battery, 27F or 24F?
If it was 24F, you'll need a bigger 27F tray to fit a 27F battery..

    Good luck.

Aren’t some folks packing a group 31 battery in the OEM location? A bit of cable rework is likely necessary because the terminals may swap locations on you.

Yep, rago battery tray fits a group 31. Had to use a 6 lug battery terminal to get the original positive to reach.

I have asked before and no one actually answers the question.
But why are people doing this costly swap???

The X2 Power 27F is sub $400 and mounts right up.

An Odyssey 31 is like $530 + about $200 in parts to get it to fit and mount safely.

You are looking at $300+ for 11 more pounds, only more 200CCA, and 8ahs?

It just seems like a lot of money for very little return.

I have had 4 vehicles with X2 power batteries now. 2 Toyotas, a GM, and a Ford. They have been great, no diode/voltage booster, no monthly top offs, no dead batteries.

I upgraded the alternator, and upgraded the wiring for my stereo. Didn’t want my lights to dim when the bass hits or have problems with system draining the battery. Could a smaller battery work? Yes but in the winter when it’s -20, I rather have the extra CCAs.

I used to have a shit ton of LED pods and bars and would notice that my headlights would dim when I turned a few of them on. That problem went away when I too upgraded to a higher output alternator.

For some, the upgrade is worth the cost. “Only 200 more CCA” is how many percent over stock? Same for the AH increase…. it’s all gains.

No different than spending $1,500 for exhaust to gain just a few HP. Is it worth it? Not for everyone.

    Much more than stock.
But the X2 is more than stock as well.

Spending $1500 on an exhaust I will ask the exact same question.

I am cheap and don’t have a ton of money so every penny counts.

Hey all!! Ended up going with the Interstate Acid lead 27f from Costco. Couldn’t make my mind up on going with X2, so figured I would just go standard for now and spend the savings on the SDHQ billet terminal upgrade. Once I get my LED’s installed and notice the battery being an issue I may upgrade to the X2, but figured I wouldn’t be using my light pods with the truck off that much so it wasn’t worth the premium. Also (just being super nit picky) I didn’t like the 27F X2 was almost 20 pounds heavier than the stock battery. Almost a 70 pound battery

thanks everyone for the help and input!!!
