Curious is anyone has investigated building anything against the cars.com API... so that folks that are on the tundras.com forum (like me) can have an easier way of shopping for their Tundra.

Well just closing the loop here. I am happy to say I now own a 2020 Tundra Limited CrewMax with TRD pkg. Even came with the TRD Exhaust which is nice to hear that v8 (oh do I miss v8 noises, pwr, etc) Now I just gotta hold back from going ham on black friday deals for the truck lol.

Wife and I named him Machete... cause why not. 35k on the dial, truck was leased by a toyota rep, so I have the complete list of maintenance done on the truck.

Now I will more than likely update the internal LED lights, thinking about installing a 110v outlet in the bed.

Great truck and welcome. Not sure of your wrench turning abilities, etc, but you still have 1000 miles before 3yr/36k mi warranty runs out. You can purchase an extended platinum care warranty still for additional peace of mind. Gotta do it before the ODO clicks 36k though.

Hey @PermaFrostTRD Appreciate the nod and welcome. I turn wrenches quite a bit, not an ASE cert mechanic. But the truck is for hauling my s2000 to the track. Was a BIG time NASIOC (subie) owner back in the day, learned wrenching on that. This is a CPO truck, so definitely happy with the additional coverage CPO provides.

    Thanks @CaptainMcJedi.

On a side note, not trying to be a "hot boy" with mods. But I want to upgrade the speakers (its non-JBL), but the wired android auto is WAY better than I had expected (fingers crossed). Was toying with getting chrome deletes from the front/rear bumper, then black out the grill. I'm not big on chrome.

Any pointers to some decent (not bass competition) speaker setups ?

No worries. I'm sure you're aware but the CPO is only 1 year, and power train until 100k or 7 years from original purchase date. Powertrain on these 5.7s are pretty stout if properly maintained. Search the forum for the extended warranty offers. Can get some great deals for under $1k - not like the $2500 the dealer was probably trying to hit you with.

Spot on @PermaFrostTRD They wanted something ridiculous. I just checked my mileage and I am at 35600. I searched the forums and reached out to Troy TDietrich@fd-warranty.com. Haven't gotten a response back yet.

The warranty is through Toyota correct or a third party ?

Touching up the topic. There is some BS with how this car came to the market. I reached out to Troy Deitrich with FD-warranty.com and some other folks whose contact information I have. (if others want it). Skinny is, the truck is past its 3 years/36k as this "availability" date happened back in Sept. So.... what was explained is that I can still get the Certified Used Platinum warranty but that it can only be sourced from the dealership I bought the truck from.

Throwing this out there if someone with more experience than I in this industry can give this a "whiff" and see if it sounds off on the BS meter.

So I called the dealership from which I purchased it and they quoted me 8yr/96k (addtl miles from purchase odo) for a bit more than 3k. I spoke about how we get our cars from a specific named dealership that they share familial ties to, and they would give me a 20% discount. Bringing it to mid 2k ranges. Thoughts ?

I personally don’t see the value in the warranty for these trucks. I do all of my own maintenance and repairs though. These are reliable trucks that suffer very few faults. And most of the reported issues happen well after 96k miles. Things like alternators and starters are usually 150k plus failures.

Search the forum for the extended warranty thread(s). There are a few members here who have access to a couple of contacts. It's nationwide coverage, not dealer specific. The "availibility date" your dealer is quoting you is bullcrap. It's 3 years after service date or 36k whatever comes first. Service date meaning purchased date. Carfax should be able to give you the correct original purchase/title date.

    edit
I found this with a quick forum search.

Yeah checking carfax it looks like I am past the 3yr/36k. The finance guy said their dealership is the ONLY dealership to provide this as they CPO'd the vehicle.

Claiming something to the affect of the truck being able to get a Used Platinum Warranty as if there was a key differentiator there.

I will call some of those other contacts, to check the detail. Appreciate your inputs here @PermaFrostTRD

Wife and I talked. Don't think we are going to pull this, I am not scared of an alternator replacement or things that (not h8ting) other folks would send to their garage. Tho I will be installing a wolfbox and sharing the writeup, I may even include an AV splitter so I can get bed view and tail view on one of the inputs.

I agree. Although this is one of a few vehicles the alternator replacement is actually a bitch to do. One other was a Pontiac Grand Prix with 3800 FWD.

So closing the warranty loop with Troy Dietrich tdietrich@toyotaofgreenfield.com
    Toyota & Ford of Greenfield
    Fathers & Sons Audi & VolkswagenTel. 413-772-0989

Nice guy, ran my VIN and I am several months late.

So the dealership guy was correct that he could offer up the extended used Platinum.... but for now I will halt hunting for this.

Good to know... I'll have to look under the hood next time. I did the alternator on my s2000... dam mounting holes were a bugger. Engaged swear drive and rubber mallet.

@dan_osms.io Lmao, I lost you and I'm just seeing this lol! Very happy for you and happy new year!!!
You'll find the Toyota is completely different vs the Ford But that being said you'll most likely never see a dealership(s) as you did before either.

Still trying to get some snow here in sw PA. Can't make up its mind today to snow or rain so it's doing both. I won't miss the 4A on the other truck because it only worked when heavy throttle or rear wheel slip, I do appreciate the weight the Tundra has in these conditions also.
