The Tundra makes a great chase truck for offroad racing.

You all know how great of a truck the Tundra is. For me is my first Tundra and just bought it a couple months ago. I put it to the test this past Baja 1000 doing chasing duties for my wife.

Basically still pretty stock, the mods I did was Bilstein 5100's in the front, slightly bigger tires, and airbags for the rear suspension. Frankly I don't really know how much weight I was carrying, and had to tow for a section of the highway, the Tundra performed flawless, even when passing other trailers and chasers I would step on the gas and the V8 just flew by them. Yes I was speeding in some parts of the highway, when chasing you have to be on your "A" game, no mistakes, and speeding is common to get from one point to another to refuel the race car or aid other fellow racers as well.

The overall distance driven was 1930 miles, twice I drove 12 hours straight. The comfort of the Tundra is something to highlight as well. The best mpg was 16 and the worst was 4.7 the worst milage was with the truck fully loaded pulling the trailer with a race car in it, and the best milage was without the trailer, I might add that my three passengers were full size :)

Here are some pics, couldn't take more because had to be attentive to the communications, and at the pits there were hardly anytime to start taking pics, on our way back a bit more relax were able to snap some pics.

She did finished more than half of her section, then we decided to take the sportsman's shortcut to hand over the car to the last owner who was the last driver, after an hour or so they decided not to continue to the finish line. By the time she got the car the checkpoints were closed, the second driver had some problems and delayed the car by 6 hours approx. It was a fun experience and we are looking forward to next's year's Baja 1000. Did you race?

That's awesome! I've chased many races with my Tundra as well, though I did not go down for the peninsula run this year since that sounded like a metric ass load of driving.

This is so cool to see a Tundra truly at home in its environment.

No, just a cool picture. Last year I chased for Canguro/Lexus with the Land Cruiser and LX600. And three years ago chased for the RST Trophy Truck out of Utah.

That is extremely cool your wife was racing! Hopefully someday I'll be able to do a race down there. I haven't been very far south, furthest was El Rosario. I'd like to drive down to Cabo San Lucas but not during a race so it's a bit more relaxed instead of sprinting down and back.

Yeah, chasing can be very stressful. We usually race here in the south, there are three championships and we choose races from each one, not commited to just one. We have three class 1, one 1600 and one 2900, so we pick the races we like the most and with the most entries.

We were watching from Punta Marquez! Ive never owned a raptor (always through they were cool) but ive heard more than one race team tell me that first they bought their raptor chase/prerunners, then they bought their tundra's and never went back :p

Now its time for you to put some long travel and 40's on her *just in case* you need to go rescue her farther out

    Too many mods to come
Awesome! Missing being in Baja a lot. We chased for a motorcycle team during the norra. Awesome experience. Hopefully enter the tundra in a norra at some point.
