My 6112s came in today and the box looked really beat up. So I decided to inspect everything and this is what I found.

emailed the the company I purchased from and waiting for a response.

should I be concerned? Product looks used

Did you open the bag, or was it open when you received it?

Either way, that's pretty beat up. Used or just rough shipping handling it's disappointing to see that kind of damage.

Concerned............................................Hell Yes. You have no idea what else was used and why did the previous customer return them. Paid for "NEW", give me F-ing new. I'd cancel the order completely and give someone else my business. Embarrassing.

If you think it's in the wrong section you can hit the "report" button at the bottom of your own post, and then explain that you think it's in the wrong section and would like it moved. Mods are always helpful with this type of thing.

If the bags were still sealed then I don't think you got anything used. It was either a quality control issue or it got handled rough in shipping. Possibly poor packing for shipping. Contact the seller, give them the chance to make it right. If they refuse, get a refund or contact Bilstein to see if they can offer any assistance. Don't fly off the handle all halfcocked like @737fixer is. These were obviously not used if the packaging is still sealed.

What do the shock bodies and piston rods look like? That existing damage to the mount itself is almost inconsequential from a function standpoint, but if the piston rod is damaged it WILL start to leak at some point.

I've seen heavy boxes like that blow apart in shipping and they send a piece or two skidding across the shipping truck floor - or worse, the asphalt. That is also a possibility. They may very well be used as well; if you have a few pics of the shock bodies and springs, we would have better idea if they have been used or not. For example, DIY mechanics usually use a cheap spring compressor to assemble the shocks that mar the powder coated finish. This is usually pretty obvious to those of use who have assembled them before.

Either way, that's a bummer. See what the seller will do for you. Do you mind if we ask where you purchased them?

I purchased from off wheeler inc. the box was damaged but not enough to damage what was inside. The items looks more used than your typical carrier mishandling. The springs even have some gouges on them. I’ll snap more pictures tomorrow

Off wheeler inc? On Amazon or eBay? Or Wheelers Off-road? The latter is a reputable company and should do right by you.

I’ve purchased several things from them in the past - including 6112’s. Ha. They have always been good to deal with so I’m sure they will get back to you; however, it being a holiday Thursday they may be short staffed tomorrow.

That looks to me like someone previously bought and returned them after trying to install them.

Plastic bags could have been replaced, so whether the bag was sealed is not a good indicator of whether it's been opened before.
