Did you use techstream to read the pan temp and did you enter fluid detection mode?

I have torque app with transmission temp reading. Also confirmed it was accurate by jumping the odb2 and putting into fluid detection mode and comparing it to the torque app temp before I did the process. also bypassed the thermostat

Perfect. Are you able to reset you degradation value? It doesn't have to be done but can give you an idea on fluid condition.

anyone doing this one piece of advice I would give is not only check the fill plug is going to come out but also check that the overflow can be lossened first also. Mine was a little scary. I should have checked before had to spray with penetrating oil and tap to get hex head
    in there

I wouldn't bother unless it's cheap and your curious. The degradation value can be found in techstream. If your doing your own maintenance it's an must have tool and the cost is low if you do some researching.

Before starting the drain and fill you can clean the top of the bolts where they go through the pan, dose with penetrating fluid. Use anti-seize on bolts when putting back in. Only use Toyota WS fluid.

He didn't take the pan down and you really don't need to. Unless the pan bolts have been out before, don't mess with them on an older truck or your going to have a very bad day.

Its more than just a screen. Its like a material that kind of looks like a scotchbrite pad. If you manage to get the pan off, might as well make the most of it and replace the filter.

People will debate on whether or not the filter needs replacing, but if it was me, a fresh filter wont hurt.

It's not recommended that the filter be changed unless you have to do other work inside the transmission. Have a look at this video from "the car care nut". He's a Toyota master tech. I'm a Toyota Pro tech and also don't recommend a filter change.

More Toyota university time and training on Hybrid technology and electrical work. Also Master techs have access to reprogram a master ignition key and other security sensity stuff. I never wanted the Master tech certification. A buddy of mine who is a Master tech got all the headache work but makes the same wage I did. My work specialized in front end, suspension, brakes and alignments which is considered gravy work.

I agree on not taking the pan off unless your diagnosing solenoids etc. Just a heads up in case you needed to make it easier without snapping pan bolts.

No, in US your right to repair is protected by law. Just pay and you'll have equal access to parts, special tools, repair information, software like dealer has. I did that with my Volvos in past. After switching to big Toyotas I did that:

    Pay once, use forever.

There are a number of places you can get the software for free but I can't comment on that. Do a search and you'll will find something. Be careful and only install on an older laptop that is not connected to the internet. There are lots of software that contains viruses. There is a thread on where to find the software but posting pirated software is not allowed on the site. Read between the lines. For the interface you can use the Tactrix Openport 2.0. OBD356.com has them but they are sold out. Do a search and you should be able to find one but be careful because there are some counterfeit ones that only work for a short period of time.
