Ah. That's why I was confused. That makes a lot more sense.

I had an 88 sentra in the early 00s. Shit box car, but it was indestructible. It leaked oil so I would just put a quart of gas station oil in every time it started tapping. It was painted with a brush at some point. 4 spd manual. I put a 12w3 in it eventually, so it was the booming shit box.

LS430 is a great car, if you can find a clean one for a fair price. They have already become collectors though, and are spendy in Texas. I don’t think upkeep will be much. Wealthy friend of mine drives one and hasn’t spent a penny on it in years. 06 with original timing belt still. He’s tight to a fault. Thing drives like a new car though.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. If I can find one that has been maintained, it's not likely that it'll break if I keep up on maintenance. So many of these cars were owned by old rich dudes who sent it to the dealer for every oil change and tire rotation, these cars get taken care of more often than an econobox.

Repairs are very expensive but maintenance isn't, OEM brake pads for all four corners costs $160, and OEM rotors are $90/ea. That's not terrible to me.

Small world, 88 Stanza here, white with blue interior. Mine was an automatic and boy did it have ZERO getup. Like a golf cart, pedal to the floor. Had a nice little amp and 12" sub in it, haha.

What do y'all think of the e38? I think it's the best looking 7 series before Bangle went and fuglified it. Lol.

    Yup, never again.

I will say though, the dash in that thing reminds me of days of yore, Blaupunkt stereos, the design was very German.

Some good news today on the insurance front. Doing an owner retained salvage, and getting a check for $5700 and some change.

Should be plenty of a budget to do the build I had in mind at no money out of pocket.

Only downside is that the title will be branded as salvage and not road legal until I make the repairs. In Texas getting a Rebuilt title is stupid easy. It's a two page form detailing repairs completed, receipts for parts, and a standard vehicle safety inspection.

Pic from yesterday after a 3 mile/ 1400' of vert approach and some crack climbing. Man was I glad to see that smashed up truck waiting for us!

You know what grinds my gears? Expensive ass pieces of plastic for cars now days. What in the actual fuck. I priced out a door sill plate piece of cladding for my aunts car today. Rockauto didn't have any in stock and no prices visible. I found it on some dealer pages for about $700 bones. Called the local dealer, they didn't have it in stock but did tell me the price on it was, get this, $1085 and change. Found the part on eBay. @1384.95. What in the actual fuck.

Eh 23 or 24 tank average usually. It calls for premium only but I never run it and it doesn't seem to hurt, you just loose a few hp. I'm just figuring the mileage has got to be better than a 430 but I didn't look honestly. I feel like it's just the right amount of power for a daily at about 268hp.

You're saying you'll get 27mpg on a 430? If so yeah that's not bad if that's real world driving. My tank average on my ES is about 23 most the time but I don't drive for good gas mileage, I wouldn't say I beat on it real bad either though. I also do very little highway driving on a normal basis.

Well, last night I saw an ‘02 LS430 on marketplace. Talked to the seller, checked out the car, and made a deal!
    IMG_9811.jpg
    IMG_9812.jpg

It’s a 2002 model, and custom trim, so it’s got the ventilated seats, radar cruise, and red wood trim, but not the air suspension and soft close doors, which always break. 240k miles, thing runs like a top. Needs a few little things, most importantly new door speakers and one of the serpentine idlers squeaks when cold. Timing belt has 120k on it so I’ll be doing that over my winter break.

One thing that really isn’t good though- the interior reeks of smoke. I’m going to try some of the air freshener foggers, and if that doesn’t work I’m just gonna buy a ozone machine from scAmazon and return it once I’m done.

I’m super happy with it, it’s almost exactly what I was looking for. Drives phenomenally.

Great looking car; most likely pricey parts to fix or maintain it.

Transporter was my first thought as well.

My wife is in for a procedure this morning and I laughed when I read this. Like I'm sure you're charging the insurance whatever, add another $5 for parking.

The guy from the shoforum hollered at me. Said he could be down in December to pick up the lot of them and the garage full of parts. He keeps wanting to give me half, but I keep telling him they're not going anywhere. It'll be nice to have my driveway back and maybe do a little maintenance on Ironman. Oil change, diff breather, maf sensor, clean TB, put the intake in the dishwasher, you know, typical stuff.

Oh, and I got an email the other day:

    Screenshot_20231110_061341_Gmail.jpg

I don't even remember when I bought those, but apparently they were back ordered.

Imagine the tundras rear axle, if you flipped it over, so the pinion is still facing forward, and the left wheel ends up on the right, would the truck still move forward? Or reverse?
