Coolant leak just showed up…

    IMG_7533.jpg IMG_7535.jpg Small pool of coolant appeared on my garage floor from overnight parking, seems relatively new due to coolant levels. Can’t see any leaks from obvious spots like hose/clamp connections. From underneath the truck I can see a few small drips coming down from the front of the engine pretty much directly below the crankshaft pulley. I can’t get a good view of the water pump or thermostat housing but I’m guessing one or both might me the culprit. Truck has 93,000 miles on it now so I know it’s about time for stuff like this to start showing up. Also what I have thought to be my alternator has been making a constant loud whining noise for several months but now wondering if it could be my water pump that I’ve been hearing. Anyone ever heard of a water pump making a loud whining noise that follows engine rpms? Here’s a few pics of coolant leak drip location under the truck viewed from driver side.

    These water pumps are belt driven so they definitely follow the RPM rise and fall; your bearings are shot with the whine and leaking.

    This is an easy change. Get motivated and grab an Aisin water pump from RockAuto along with a new serp belt/pulleys/tensioner and concentrated coolant from your favorite Toyota dealer.

    Beat me to it. Agreed. Water pump. Easy fix on this motor. The 4.7 was much more time consuming

    Thanks all for the input and advice, I went out and bought an inspection mirror and confirmed this morning that my coolant leak is coming from the water pump so it looks like I’ll have a full day next weekend to change the alternator, water pump, thermostat, serp belt, tensioner and pulleys. Just need to price it all out and get it ordered so I have everything I need before taking stuff apart. Will post an update if this resolves the annoying whining noise that’s been plaguing me every time I drive my truck!

    My 2014 didn't started to leak at til i hit 184,000 miles. Big mistake that i made was over torque on the thermostat housting as i was putting everything back. Lesson learn and i ordered me a digital torque wrench. I'm a dumass...lol
