Picked up a 2020 Tundra with 78k miles. Decided I'd start with the Maint list as I don't think the previous owner did much. Brakes were squealing so I decided to start with those. Rear first, got the lug nuts off and expected the rim to pop right off - nope, seems stuck on. Is this common? Alloy rims. Do I just bang on the rim with a hammer from the inside until they pop off or what? Help!

Use a rubber mallet and a bit of PB blaster. That’ll probably do the job. Most likely seized on

Mine are disk, the link references drum. First handful of posts (17) on the link all about drum - is it supposed to reference the stuck rim somewhere in that post?

Please don't hit your rims with a hammer
I spray penetrating oil around the lug studs and center hub then use a block of wood against the rim

It’s actually both. The parking brake is a drum style inside of the discs center hub.

Lower your spare wheel, grab it and smack the stuck wheel on the bottom in a swing motion. Clean all oxidation good and add a bit of grease or aluminum-based antiseize (not copper!).

It will cause an awful electrochemical corrosion in aluminum, much worse than steel on copper. If you leave it for a long time and grease dries out, the corrosion kicks in and ruin the wheel. Rule of thumb is to use aluminum antiseize on aluminum.

I used a block of wood against the rim and it came off - Thanks for all the replies. First Tundra brake job - didn't want to mess it from the get go. I'll probably be back for more advice - TIA

An absolute to open the bleeder screw to compress the pistons or not? I've seen mention of both....

I never have unless there is a problem (clogged soft line, stuck piston)
