It has probably been obvious for most of the member here for many years, but I have come to realize I need a Tundra!

I am a long time Toyota and Jeep fanatic from Kansas with a couple of Land Cruisers and a few different Jeeps.

Now I realized it is practically sacrilegious to mention the "J" word on a Toyota forum. I feel it is important to mention that dirty word since my goal is to replace a $200 Jeep Comanche I bought 12 years ago with a first generation access cab Tundra. The Comanche might be an ugly ducking, but it continues to handle every overload situation and demand I ask of it. However as a recent new father I have realized it is not a practical truck for my wife and I to have since it only seats two!

I have decided to find a first generation access cab truck to get the 4.7L V8. Who doesn't love the sewing machine quality of the 2UZ-FE? My trusty stead, daily driver and general wander about vehicle is a 1999 Land Cruiser that is now at 386k miles. At the beginning of 2023 I though I would hit 400k miles by the end of this year, but long distance traveling dramatically slowed when I became a dad. I am looking forward to making many new traveling memories with the nugget in a few short years and anticipate hitting 1/2 a million miles in short order!

My wife drives a 2016 Land Cruiser. Naturally she gets the newer ride with cameras and fewer odd smells coming from the interior bits. As nice as the 5.7 in the Land Cruiser is, I just don't love the way the 3UR-FE feels so I am not real interested in the second generation Tundra. Not to mention, the second generation Tundra's are massive!

I am looking forward to being an active member of this forum once I find the right Tundra!

    Cheers!

Good eye! It sure is. I spend a lot of time wandering around the backroads of the Flint Hills.

    Welcome from San Diego!

    Super cool LC.

Yeah, Tundras are alright I guess.

I loved my 1st gen 4.7 and it served me well for years, but I gotta' tell ya'... the difference in HP/TQ, towing, bigger brakes, more gears, and the room is night and day. The back seat is so big you'd have to pull over to smack the kids!

@SD Surfer - spent my childhood in Southern California. After 30 yrs away in the military, it was unaffordable to go back. My son who is a Naval aviator did SERE school there also.

I guess Veteran's day is as good a time as any to thank you and your son for your service to our nation!

Yeah, my wife sometimes talks about moving, but having been here my whole life I'm afraid if I left it'd be the same unaffordable deal, so I'm staying. (At least till I can't surf anymore)
