The Hurricane Engine....I guess it was going to happen sooner or later. The electronics in this new Tungsten or RHO are nuts. You better have a good extended warranty.

The V8 half ton is on borrowed time, pretty soon you will only get the 8 in a 2500 or above.

MAYBE the Chevy 6.2 and Ford 5.0 will survive for awhile as options to keep their fan clubs engaged but these V8s seem to have had all the potential squeezed out of them. More money bringing smaller and smaller improvements.

Gotta go forced Induction 6 to continue moving the bar on power and mileage.

Definitely wishful thinking. Toyota moves sloooooooow. Gen 3 only took 9 years!

I do however like the Ramcharger idea with the generator to recharge the battery when the gas engine is running. But that must suck some HP out of the engine.

I'm thinking you won't even know the gas motor is running or any power losses. This is probably just like locomotives....engine the runs a generator and the electric motors get the work done.

Of anyone it should have been Toyota with the ability to keep the V8. Cafe standards are across the manufacturer so if you have enough economical vehicles you can have some tanks.
Ford and Chevy might be able to. Ram couldn’t

I wonder if they'll offer the new 1/2 tons with an 8' bed, front bench seat, without $60k worth of touch screens and stitching, or if they'll force everyone who needs a 1/2 ton for work into a 3/4 ton.

I believe those are getting even more stringent going forward so they all may be looking down the road to higher standards and thinking counting on the econoboxes to carry the fleet won't fly anymore. They're going to have to try to find ways to get close to 20 or more out of some of these half tons on the test cycle

I saw some evidence of those hurricane engines catastrophically failing already on FB in the Jeep offerings. Top end issues and rods through the block were mentioned by a mechanic tasked with fixing them. Will be interesting to see how that one pans out. The “Ramcharger” idea is both cool and obvious to me, and I’m surprised to have not seen it developed by a truck manufacturer sooner. Sadly, electric motors do nothing for me personally as far as excitement to own.

Weird, locomotives have burnt diesel to power electric motors and make amazing torque and efficiency for the loads they pull. How f'ing hard was this to understand and how it could be adapted to pickups.

Well done Ram, now that with some Toyota reliability that would be amazing

Is that independent rear suspension I see? Hmm.. I do like an inline 6 turbo. I was really hoping Toyota went that route with the new Tundra.

EV has a sour taste in my mouth after reading that the manufacturers have been padding the numbers on range. In some cases, it was half of what they stated. Pretty pathetic. Goes to show the tech ain't there yet.

BTW what will they charge for the thing? My XLT powerboost with 302 high package with cloth stickered for 63k in March 2022. Price increases have probably brought that to the high 60s or maybe 70. Can't to get into a Lariat for under low 70s now.

Then you add expensive new labor contracts to cover. Could be talking about an 80k half ton here just reasonably well equipped by the time it's in showrooms, with elevated interest rates coupled with that.

Soon we need to start living in our trucks to afford them, I wonder if this girl has room in her truck for me so that I can save $150K for my next truck purchase?

I know there is separation between all of the Chrysler fiat Ram and Jeep companies now, but it'd be really sweet if they dust off the classic AMC/Jeep 4.0 straight 6 for this endeavor. That was a great motor. Especially if it's looking to be used in the formerly ½ ton, now casual truck market.

Sure would be nice if in the “land of the free and the home of the brave” the market was allowed to decide what vehicles are offered and purchased.

I have said before and will say again, I think if you got auto execs alone over drinks they would say we're approaching a perfect storm of popping debt bubbles, labor costs and EV losses that generates a new round of bankruptcies. They've accepted that it's coming And they're already writing up government bailout proposals to have ready.

We are in a cycle started in COVID where people demand wage increases to cover rising prices which makes more stuff expensive which causes more people to demand wage increases. Pattern Just keeps repeating and feeding on itself. I don't see an end to it until the collapse happens and people are forced to stop spending on everything but essentials.

It will cost you $150k for that van. Then you have to find a hot chick to make videos of pretending to live in it and hope you make the $150k back.
It's typically $40-45k for a base promaster van and $80-100k+ for the build out.
Sprinter and Ford vans are usually more expensive than the rams.

This new Ram looks a lot more interesting than the 3rd Gen Tundra did at launch. I hate to give credit to Ram, but on paper they have a clearly superior engine design for their ICE 1/2 ton.

The Ramcharger strait up solves a lot of problems with EV’s and their general uselessness for a lot of people depending on use or geography. Ironically as long as Ram doesn’t use the most bargain basement cheap shitty inverters, batteries, and electric motors possible (it is Ram so there’s a good chance that they will) they’re solving the biggest Achilles Heel of all their vehicles: their usual transmission quality outside of the ZF 8 speed.

If they don’t have a team looking to apply electrified axles to all the HD trucks and ditch their horrible in house 6 speed they’re out of their minds.

I am probably invested in my powerboost for 8-10 more years as I just got the extended service plan and intend to buy another vehicle in about 5.

I'll keep an eye on the Ram with the early 2030s in mind. If it is fairly reliable, the generator capabilities are comparable to the Powerboost, it can get over 20 mpg without extreme hypermiling and it is not approaching 6 figures I won't rule it out.

I can get over 20 overall around town on my Powerboost without working too hard on it, this is the bare minimum I expect for that tech to be worth it. If that's even an appropriate way to measure efficiency on this thing. I have gotten 650 or so to a tank on road trips and the truck is said to be capable of close to 700 if meticulously hyper miled. I believe it but I have never been willing to do it to that extend for such a long trip. I'm curious to see what the real world range away from a controlled test loop looks like for this.

What do you think the Ramcharger weighs? It’s got 8 lug wheels… Hopefully not a 10k lbs curb weight like the Hummer EV.

And BTW, here’s what I think of when I hear ramcharger. but I get the wordplay.
