Bought my brand new Capstone and check engine light came on after 1k miles. It was a bad O2 sensor which was replaced by the dealer. The truck was shifting gears like a dream. I didn't even feel it shifting before. Now its just not the same. Took it to the dealer and the tech drove it and said it was normal. It's just not. The smoothness of the truck was the main reason I went with the tundra and now its just not the same and the dealer didn't do anything to address this issue. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I dont think anyone is going to be able to diagnose a trans over the internet just based on it not being as smooth.

one thought, if they disconnected the battery for a decent time to make your repair, its going to have to learn all over again.

so give it some miles to do that

I think where the transmission shifting and rpm play a big deal with that. Under 2k rpm the engine and transmission shift ok but it is certainly hunting. After 2k and up when you hit the gas... it shifts very smooth as the mph climbs and the turbos sing.

Mine only has 3500 mi. and its smooth. Wonder if they did the recall on the display and the new software made a change?
I adjusted my airbag sensors to full lock to get the axel away from the bump stops and it made the ride so much better than before.

I have a similar issue with my ‘23 1794. When I’m not pushing it and between 30-40 mph, it feel like it’s stalling to shift or something. I don’t think it’s turbo lag, it’s more like the transmission can’t decide what gear it’ll shift to.

Have you talked to the dealer about it?

Drive her for a few hundred miles. She may need to relearn are transmission perimeters.

    don’t lose hope.

I haven’t, I was going to wait for my 5k service. Only have about 1300 miles on it.

Just drive it and give it some good runs so it can relearn

    that’s hardly any miles anyways

Does anyone notice when they first start their truck in the morning and shift to drive and take off that there’s a small slip before it fully engages? Mine does this and it only happens when the truck has sat for a few hours. Was curious if this is normal or if it might be low on trans fluid or something

You mean like a delay? I think there is a problem with gas pedal delay

    Lots of stuff!
We need paddle shifters to go with the manual shift mode!

I am surprised to hear that the Capstone has a lag being that the hybrid delivers instant power even if the turbos are sleeping.

I would try the different modes to see if one is better than the other for shift points.

We just came back from a hilly drive camping with the trailer. I didn't notice the shift points at all in tow mode. Mine has about 3,000 miles on it and the transmission shifts great. I have disconnected the battery to put my grille on and didn't notice any difference afterwards.

Try driving a newer taco with the 6 speed auto, then come back to the Tundra! Big difference!

no it’s not really a delay. I’ll push on the gas and the RPMs go up until it reaches a certain level and then it’s will engage and start driving normal, but you can almost feel like a slight slip when it occurs.

I would be surprised if there was any turbo lag to make it feel like a transmission slip.

My transmission shifts fine, pretty smooth for the most part. Although I do hear a slight clunk sound at certain times when transmission downshifts when I'm slowing down.

Throttle delay? Yes I get that randomly, not a huge deal as I'm used to it by now, but makes truck not fun at all

I notice when cold, shifting from park to drive it is "solid" feel. If I'm pulled into driveway, I shift to reverse back, back into road, then shift to drive. Truck is still cold and rpms are higher since it is trying to warm up. The shift is harsh "solid."

To me it is because truck is cold. Acts completely "normal" when at operating temp.

Yeah I have some of the delayed engagement. What I’m experiencing is different. It’s like the engine revs and then there’s a small slip and then it’s all normal
