Oil Filter Housing Can't Screw Off!

So I have a 2010 Toyota Tundra SR5 that I'm changing the oil on. What I thought was going to be a simple thing but the oil filter housing as seen in the pics below is screwed on sooo extremely tight that even my custom wrench has broken the tabs on the housing! So now I need to find a tool or solution that will have the power to grip around the oil filter housing giving me enough leverage to twist it off. I've tried every tool and all the muscle I have along with my two other friends trying but still didn't budge. It's like the previous owner who sold me this truck welded the stinking filter on, crazy! I even tried my hammer drill, didn't work.
Any of you experienced Tundra pros have an ideas? I bought a new oil filter housing so I don't care about cracking/breaking the housing that's on there. Thank you!

Try an oil filter strap wrench

 

You have a recommendation of an oil filter strap wrench with a long handle to provide enough room to twist it off?

Just hope the chain metal doesn't bend after putting so much force on it. Anyone try this?

 

Chain wrench should work. May have to slip a pipe over the handle adding leverage. Your filter wrench is junk. Throw it away and buy the Motiv wrench. You’ll also need to get a new filter housing. Just make sure it has the longer pipe inside. These housing seal at the prong and only need to be snug. Unfortunately the grease monkeys at many dealers and quick change places use an impact to overtighten them

 

It sounds like the previous owner didn't change the oil at all.

 

Yeah the previous owner was a dealership so crazy stuff! And that's a great idea to slip a pipe over the handle adding leverage, thank you! I bought a new filter housing already so we're good there. Just need to get the old one off. I'll try tomorrow and see if these ideas work!

 

I have giant channel locks that I use for dumb situations like this. Haven’t failed me yet.

 

That's an excellent idea, giant channel locks, especially if I use the pipe trick over the handles for leverage since this filter housing is in a tough spot. It's right behind the BDS lift kit bar. I'll have to find a giant channel lock tool big enough, any suggestions? If not I'll hunt around.

This happened to me with a Sequoia that I stupidly took the two years of free oil changes on. On the last oil change the dealer had to have used an impact gun as I couldn't remove the filter housing with a breaker bar or my own impact gun when i went to do my own first oil change. I took it back to the dealer and watched while FOUR techs used a four foot breaker bar to break it loose. They really had to work at it with two pulling, two pushing and just barely broke it loose after numerous attempts. It took forever since I first had to wait while every tech in the building came over to show the guys with the previous failed attempt "how it's done", only to not get it done. Needless to say, I had very little confidence in the plastic filter housing after that and replaced it with a metal one.

 

I had the same issue and ended up using channel locks. Make sure you got a good grip and take it slow.

 

I’m terrified thinking how long it’s been since the filter was changed.

 

And what sucks is it's only like 35nM to tighten it on. It's a little over hand tight and you're good. +1 on the Motiv

I'm happy to say I finally got off this crazy oil filter thanks to all of your help! It ended up being the Ratcheting Chain Wrench that did the trick to grip it tight enough with the breaker bar for leverage. Glad that's done phew!
