Who has traded their older tundra for a new tundra with the hybrid?

A lot of folks have. My FIL traded his 2019 1794 for a 2022 1794 with the hybrid and really likes it. If I moved to the 3rd gen it would only be to the hybrid.

Do you have specific concerns? Or what are you trying to get from this? Test drive the new tundra, if it meets your needs and you like it, go for a trade and see if your happy with the numbers.

I figured also if getting rid of the 5.7 I'd go to the hybrid engine maybe just the regular tt v6. I mean. I love my truck. Just thinking about about it

You should be asking the 3rd gen group if your looking for impressions after trading in for the new model. Asking the 2.5 gen forum isn't going to give you much besides "we didnt want one".

I've driven the new one. It's not for me, even if I had to buy a new (not used) truck tomorrow.

Really (I mean really) wanted the new Sequoia but Toyota missed the mark there also. Their cargo solution sunk that. GX 550 looks awesome, but not sure its worth buying when I have a dependable low mileage bulletproof (and good looking) pickup.

There have been some great comparisons on YouTube. Most agree the 3rd gen is better all around.

That said, I still catch myself looking at pristine 2000 4Runners and dreaming of owning one. I know if I sold my truck I'd just be looking at it in the future the same way.

Ah man- first I’m hearing of this. Sup with the sequoia storage?

If I were buying a new rig it’d be the GX 550 for sure. But I can’t quit on this hog… not to mention the GX $$$$.

3rd row platform doesn't lay flat. It's all wonky.

The primary need associated with purchasing a large suv IMO is a functional 3rd row and large convenient cargo room. In the new model the 3rd row is too small, and the seats don't lay flat when folded down.

Saw that as well as was really disappointed. It’s sort of an awkward space with the seats not able to lay flat.

I have owned 4 hybrids (prius, prius v, Avalon and Sienna) plus 2 turbo vehicles (Expedtion, Edge ST) and am daily driving a Chevy Silverado 2.7L 4 cylinder turbo which is a company provided vehicle. Toyota has the hybrid worked out, it is the one company I trust with them. They will work out any bugs with turbos as they do with any other new vehicle they make.

I watched the care care nut go through the specs of the new Tundra turbo hybrid. Toyota went the route of "more power, better towing performance" rather than better MPG for the truck so don't expect stellar mpg numbers.

Every hybrid and turbo vehicle I have had all get off the line better than the V-8s I have and have had. The torque comes in so much lower in the rpm range. They get better MPG as long as you stay out of the boost but deliver superior towing performance when you do. My expedition with the 3.5 TT and 6 speed automatic rarely downshifted towing a heavy trailer going up hills. The 2007 Sequoia it replaced would downshift twice on the same load and grade. The Eco boost Ford averaged around 18mpg while the Sequoia averaged 14.5mpg.

Me, I traded in a 2022 fully loaded Edge ST for a 2018 Tundra because I was looking for a 10 year minimum vehicle. All the gadgets going into new ones like lane centering, parallel parking for you, backing up to a trailer, 360 camera views just won't last that long. How expensive is it to replace the actuator and sensors that move the steering wheel? Can you drive it if they go bad? These were the questions nagging me for longevity so I wanted to go simple and reliable for a long term vehicle. 4runners until the redesign and last gen Tundra were all I was looking for.

If you get rid of vehicles every 3 to 5 years before they hit 100,000 miles get whatever you want. If you keep them much longer and high mileage be very selective on the features you add.

From my understanding from someone that has a non hybrid third gen, the hybrid won't really net you better mpg's. Only more power and better for towing.

I had originally leased my 2020. When the lease was up, I had full intentions of getting a non hybrid 3rd gen. The insane market killed that plan as I was not going to lease a new one for $800 a month. I ended up buying my 2.5 gen will end up keeping it for the next 10 years or so.

Who knows though, life changes and in 2 years I may find myself in a 3rd gen seat. Not ruling out that option.

Subjective. It's his money, not yours. If he feels that spending money on a new truck is worth it to him then perfect.

i has a 2011 rock warrior tundra and two years ago i traded it it was 11 years old i paid 43k new ad they gave me 20k on a trade. nothing wrong with it, wish i would have kept it.

i just bought a 2024 1794 and it is in the shop getting a 3" lift.

i drove the 2024 hybrid and the engine makes too many unfamiliar sounds since i am a newbie to the tundra hybrid, so i bought the 1794

i also owned a dodge ram 1500 back in 2011 and i went through 3 sets of brakes at 40,000 miles. my rock warrior i put new pads (only) at 99,000 miles LOL

maybe the rams have gotten better in the last 10+ years

i agree i just bought this new 1794 with the intentions of keeping it as long as possible.

there is a video online where one of the Toyota engineers is saying there is no reason why the new V6 turbo engines shouldn't be able to go for 1,000,000 miles. obviously when treated right and regular oil changes and maintenance.

he said the have the engines lined up across the plant and are fed gasoline 24/7 and they want them to break so they can figure out why they broke and fix it before it even happens.

It makes me wonder if they are set to a consistent RPM or if they put different loads and variable engine speeds to replicate real world driving.

About the only reason I didn't buy a hybrid is that I would have lost the under seat storage in the back seat (thats where the batteries go) and the power the non-hybrid engine has still feels like a sports car to me with how the turbos punch. The twin turbo has usable torque at like 2000-ish rpm's and its like a diesel producing peak torque down in that range, just something to consider. It pulls trailers like they aren't even there. I can't see many situations I would actually need that kind of power in the Hybrid(I do want it, but ultimately decided I wanted the under seat storage more then the excessive power). For reference I've personally owned a Tacoma V6, Ram 1500 eco-diesel, Ford F250 w/ 6.7 powerstroke, Silverado w/ 5.3L V8, Silveardo w/ 6.2L V8, and even had a Mazada Speed3 with its bonkers turbo engine and I can say this truck is my favorite vehicle to drive of all of them and I never find myself wanting for more power. I've also driven just about every engine in a Ford F-150 (eco boost's/V8's/etc.) in the work trucks I used to drive, Driven First Gen Tundra's with the 4.7 (including my dads with 240k miles), Second Gen Tundra's with the 5.7....... and I think this Third Gen drive's better than all of them. Hybrid is cool for the POWER!, but in my opinion its not necessary and you'd be happy with a non hybrid and also enjoy the under seat storage in the back. As others have stated you don't really get any better fuel mileage with the Hybrid.....just more POWER!!!!!!!!!!!

Whelp if you go Hybrid you will continue to have no under seat storage, so same same. Test drive a non-hybrid, you'll be like wow this is plenty.......I was legitimately surprised how powerful the non-hybrid is and that storage is sooo necessary.
