I will start this with I am not even a shade tree mechanic, but youtube made it look easy and the dealership wanted an outrageous amount of money for it. So if any other non mechanics are on the fence, I changed oil in both diffs and the transfer case this weekend. The fill and drain hole plugs were torqued WAY above specs and I was scared of the amount of pressure it took to get them out, but they broke loose. Everything was straight forward but the transfer case oil was WAY thinner than the gear oil, so I bathed in that unexpectedly. Lucky I had a ton a cardboard down figuring I would do something like that.

Nice! If there was a previous owner, maybe they were the ones that over torqued it.

I'm no mechanic either but anytime I can watch a youtube video and do something productive on the truck always makes me feel like a master mechanic when I'm done.

I believe a lot of people on here have had a hard time with the front diff drain plug and possibly stripping. Did you have issues with that?

No the front wasnt as bad because the Hex fit tighter, The rear was 24mm and it just did not seem to fit as secure. I tried 2 deferent sockets, both had a little play.

Ravenol from blaurparts. It was suggested MANY times over for one of the few “in spec” options. It appears very quality. To be honest, the way the quarts are set up with the special tube to fill, I wished I would have just bought the package deal they offer. Check them out if you are unfamiliar, they sell packages for all oil change options.
