I loved that truck, when it ran. So great. The guy before me put King coil-overs in the front, lift blocks in the back, new wheels with K02s, did the timing belt. It spent its life in Utah and Nevada, pretty clean underneath. Yeah there was a bullet hole in the side of the bed, and a bunch of sun damage to the paint, but it didn't bother me.

Stolen off the streets of DC, sometime between Wednesday and this morning.

The police can see my plates still on it, as of yesterday, driving around town.

They say maybe it will get parked and they'll catch the plate and I'll get it back. Seems more likely it will get chopped up and sold, or burned out. We'll see.

VIN = 5TBBT441X5S461178. I reported it to my insurance. MPD has a case open. Anywhere else I should be reporting it?

And: if you could start over, as I seem to be, would you stay 1st Gen or move up into 2nd Gen? Use is mostly driving to and from a place in the mountains and doing work up there. Hauling wood, lumber, etc. Steep gravel and dirt roads, unplowed in the winter.

I think you should post a BOLO on this in one of the main forums. @Bob is there any way to effectively do this, so we can have an army of DC/MD area folks looking out for this rather distinct truck?

Ugh, that sucks. I'm not sure whether to say I hope you do or don't get it back, it seems many times when people get their stolen vehicles back it's trashed and full of disgusting crap and stolen goods.

If you do have to replace it I will say, I loved my 1st gen... it served me well for 7 years and never left me stranded.

But... the '19 I replaced it with is a night and day improvement in many ways. Towing, roominess, and the pretty song of the 5.7 winding up.

Will keep an eye out for sure! Hoping it works out for you either way - I believe it’s considered a loss after 30 days if it isn’t recovered

That sucks. Having recovered my fair share of stolen vehicles I can say if mine was ever stolen I wouldn’t want it back. These losers trash TF out of them.

I remember the one thread on here a couple months back where the dude with a 2.5 or 3rd gen Tundra got his back with all kinds of fun stuff, including hooker clothes, crack/meth smoking paraphernalia, a really nice ass concrete saw, and misc other stolen crap. Fun thread.

The good news is that these trucks hold their value so well that you may just make out if it doesn’t get recovered. Still sucks that it happened and inconvenient

Nah. Guarantee it’s meth heads/crackheads. Usually ship overseas jobs are on the boat within 24 hours. If it’s triggering on local PD’s LPR cams, it’s not headed for a boat. That’s a good thing.

Did you watch the 2nd video? There was an 05-06 Tundra or Sequoia in one of the containers they showed.

i didn’t, but I know the MO of these wastoids. Their goal is to have the freight at the container overnight and loading the container on the ship the next day. They don’t drive around town for days then load up. The goal is to have the vehicle out of sight within hours so they won’t get caught.

Thanks guys. I guess I hope it's joyriders because there's a chance I get it back? With the interior wrecked though.

The officer who took my report seemed to lean that way.

I'll keep you posted. Thanks for keeping an eye out.

Your beat cops are always going to have the best 6th sense on this one. They know your local perps better than anyone. I used to liaise pretty heavily with ours, from ‘05 thru 2017ish, it was a real learning experience. Those guys knew their turf and could usually 50/50 peg who the perp or group was associated with anything that happened on their beat.

I hate to hear this. In the Old West, a horse thief was hung almost immediately when caught. Our trucks are our modern horses, so. . .

Sorry to hear your truck got stolen. I'm just up the road in Columbia so I hope the vermin that steal our trucks don't migrate north. Where did it get stolen from? Parking garage? Hotel? Casino?

Until I read this thread I thought smash and grab theft of 1st gens was near impossible due to the engine immobilizer. But Google just told me I'm stupid and 1st gens don't have an immobilizer. WTH? My 2000 pos Chevy Impala had a hella complicated anti-theft system of chip in key and resistors in ignition that was quite the deterrent. So much so that when the system went on the fritz after 16 years and 200k it required an involved solution of internet wizardry and wire soldering to bypass it.

Hope you get your truck back.

D.C. is now using Apple AirTags to curb car theft (appleinsider.com)

This sucks mang. I hope you get your truck back soon. :(

Time to look for GPS tracker solution for mine. One of the pluses of adding the Link-r Cellular remote start module to my Ferd was the added tracking ability. Now I can remote start it from anywhere and have vehicle tracking on it. Noice.

I agree with this. My brand new GMC Yukon was stolen in NJ. The beat cop told me we'd never see our truck again. He was convinced it was already in a container in Newark before he even responded to our call. My Honda Accord was stolen in Beltsville MD. It was found 28 days later, not much worse for the wear. Ironically, it was totaled in a crash while being towed to the impound lot after being recovered.

Ins. Co: "So let me get this straight. Your car was stolen..."

    Me: "Yes Sir"

Ins. Co: "...and then it was destroyed in a separate event while being recovered by the Police"

    Me: "Yes Sir, that's correct"

Ins. Co: "Umm...no dude, that can't be. I'm kicking this upstairs to the Fraud Department"

Immob is only included in Sequoia and some of their sibling double cabs, though not all.

As much as I’d love to add something like that to my truck, and you could probably finagle in something OEM I think if aftermarket wasn’t your bag, I don’t think I would.
