Good evening all, I have to replace the stock trailer hitch due to swiss cheese condition of the hitch crossmember. When I went to remove the old hitch I noticed the bumper brackets are welded to the hitch. I removed the entire unit. NOW my question for the collective hive is this...
Can I just replace the hitch with an aftermarket one and get a new bumper? Or is this not doable. Thank you in advance.

Please post pics. Would really help here.

Did your truck come with factory tow package and 7-pin rear harness?

Yes it has the factory 7 pin rear harness that was bolted under the rear bumper... standby, I'll run out to my workshop and take a few pictures.

I added pictures to my main album. Couldn't figure out how to add them to this thread yet.

Thanks, I'm trying to figure out if I can just bolt on a Reese hutch and add a bumper separately. I'll go check that other thread out. Thank you.

In the first picture you can see where the bumper supports are welded to the hitch fram that bolts to the frame.

That’s weird. I don’t think my ‘06 is like that. I’m not sure the other guy’s is also but may be the tiny ass screen I’m on. Does that other thread I linked to … does it look like yours?

Sort of... I will go out tomorrow and remove the bumper and see if it is the same. I think I'm going to order an aftermarket hitch for it and then order a bumper with the brackets and see if it will fit. What's the worst that can happen, it doesn't work and I return it. I'll keep ya posted.

I dunno, but two, maybe three people in that thread were able to use www.car-part.com and find an OEM replacement that wasn't rusted out for like $100 so I'm not sure I'd bother with aftermarket. But I dunno, YMMV. Hardest part will be finding a way to adapt the 7-pin OEM harness to the new bumper, but maybe you can pop the OEM bracket off the old OEM support, then use self-tappers to mount it to the aftermarket.

I'll check out car-part.com as well
I may weld up a cool bumper, I have the means to do so - but not a lot of free time to play. Thanks for the input. Have a great evening.
