Hi, everyone. I just wanted to create a new thread sharing my Tundra buying experience. I hope others will also use this thread to share their experiences and reasons they bought a Tundra.

For me, it started when I was 17 years old. My dad was searching for an upgrade for his 2000 Sierra 2500. He ended up going with a Tundra almost purely because the local Toyota dealer had offered him the most for his trade in. The local GM dealer came in with a very low offer. My dad felt a little insulted but also felt that GM wasn’t standing by their own product after Toyota had actually offered him more.

Anyway, the truck he ended up buying was a brand new 2013 SR regular cab long box 2wd Tundra with the 5.7. There was nothing to write home about as far as luxury features but we were both impressed by the powerful drivetrain and the robust feel of the truck.

Three years later I was in the market for my own truck. Ended up buying a 2010 SR5 regular cab long box 4x4 that was 6 years old at the time with 77,000kms on it. When I purchased the truck it had a 3 inch leveling kit in the front with blocks under the rear leaf springs which gave this thing a really tough and aggressive looking stance. I owned this truck for almost 8 years and the only mechanical problems I had were a bad alternator and a broken leaf spring. The truck really was a great machine. When I decided to sell it, there were 195,000kms on it. There were 2 coworkers interested and a buddy of mine. I ended up selling to a coworker simply because he was first in line. The most impressive thing was that when he took it in for safety certification, it needed absolutely nothing. I never did any front end work or anything so I thought this was a testament to just how durable these things are.

I sold that truck simply because I just started a family and a regular cab just wasn’t going to cut it anymore. When choosing a replacement I decided that I was going to keep an open mind on what brand I might purchase despite my love for my old Tundra. To be honest I was always a little disappointed with the fuel economy on the old Tundra. Ford offers more towing and hauling capacity while being more efficient, and I kind of like the grown up look of the GMCs. I spent a couple months looking through the used truck market and near the end I found myself only looking at Tundras. Even though Fords were more capable (on paper) and cheaper, my heart kept drawing me towards the Tundras.

In the end I bought an inferno 2015 TRD pro crew cab with 118,000km. I couldn’t be happier with my decision. The thing feels rugged as hell and is in near mint condition. And it really is a unique head turner. Another coworker bought a brand new 2024 Ram Rebel around the same time but my almost 9 year old TRD pro stole all the attention. I look forward to many years driving this beauty. Cheers.

    I'll play.

I can sum up my story to the Tundra in a few words everyone would understand..

    6.4L Power stroke > Ford 10 speed > 2017 Tundra

    Long version:
Family has always been a Ford family until this year. I inherited a 2008 F-250 with 6.4l Powershit. Powershit decided to drop some rockers and kill itself dumping fuel in 7 and 8 to "Regen" at 85k.

Sold the Powershit for a 2018 F-150 2.7 EB with 10 speed at 32k miles. Loved the 2.7, hated the 10 speed... Crashed, banged and boomed into every gear all day. Sold that garbage at 50k.

Tired of problems research led me to Tacoma's and Tundra's. I went truckless for a while to save up and find something good. Skipped out on a Tacoma because I needed something more capable.

Few months later I found a 2017 Tundra CM 5.7. Color was Quicksand/Sandstorm, one of my favorites. Had a matching ARE Bed cap, 3/2 lift, 38gal tank and spray lined bed. Price was 26k with 121,000 on the dot and full maintenance history.

I have had this truck for 7 months now and just rolled to 130k miles and am a happy camper!!

Welcome from the Rust Belt Penna.. I bought my 07 CM in 2022 because I wanted reliability, and not another rust bucket POS Chevy/GMC. When you are willing to buy a 3 owner tuck with 200k+ on it, you only do that because you are confident that you can get another 200k out of it. You made the right choice.

Either I completely misunderstand your post, or you have used the wrong <> symbols.

    Correct, went from a 2008 F-250 with a 6.4l power stroke that killed itself to a 2018 F-150 with a bad 10 speed to the 2017 Tundra.
